reelyreal said:Comparing WEPN to WEEI is total apples and oranges. WEPN was always the second tier sports station in NYC, WFAN was and is king. WEEI was the big dog in town for the better part of 2 decades. While it's neck and neck with TSH, WEEI has a more loyal fan base than syndicated ESPN programming. The FM simulcast has been going on for a year. There's no concern.
Beg to differ, Amigo. WEPN, like WEEI built their audience on AM. WEEI-FM has been simulcasting 850 for about one year now. WEPN moved to 98.7 FM about 6 months ago. I don't remember if WEPN simulcasted 1050 for a while or just jumped straight to 98.7. It doesn't really matter.
The ratings have been trending downward for WEPN since going to FM. The ratings have not shown anything that I can see for WEEI since adding 93.7. The Book says that WEEI AM and WEEI FM simulcast is currently second dog to 98.5. You are right that WEEI was top dog better part of 2 decades. They ain't now!
Do you think that the stand alone WEEI on the 93.7 rimshot will be able to beat the mighty 98.5, centrally located WBZ-FM signal? God bless you and we'll see what the next few Books have to say about the matter!
