breaking BRW 103.3 to amp format, 60s-70s-80s to hd2

He tweeted "big radio announcement at 3, this better be good". Well it's big.

WROR prob happy, less competition?
WODS Christmas trad gone?

Whither Barry Scott?

1033ampradioboston.com supposedly new URL, not working yet

The answer is apparently...yes.

More from Mark of BRW
>>"A full- time program director for the station, as well as the line-up of live and local talent, will be named at a later date" 1033AMP

Looks like in Boston's classic hits/oldies war...WROR has won as CBS will turn 103.3 back into a Top 40 station. Remember WHTT? Not a lot of people have HD radio's, so I wonder if those people who will miss WODS as it becomes AMP go out and spend the money for an HD radio or will they tune in to 105.7?

Surprised they didn't want to go with a Mainstream AC actually... as for Christmas music in November, will it be Magic 106.7 instead of WROR? :)

At least it's nice for there to be an alternative to Kiss 108... does AMP lean Urban or Dance at all? Try to chip at Jammin too...

Wow. Is this the first time CBS hasn't done well at classic hits/done away with the format in the PPM era?

For whatever reason, when I think of Boston and classic hits, I think of WODS - not WROR. WROR leans a little towards classic rock. I wonder if they'll add more 70s/80s pop with the departure of WODS?

Because I am in the age group...sad to see it go but it seemed as if CBS's heart wasn't in it with the constant morning show revamping and all. I personally liked WODS better than WROR because they had a more uptempo presentation. I understand their decision however, as KISS has had a wide open paqth for the past few years and must be printing money for CC. If anyone will take it on CBS has the guts and deep pockets to do it.

I think cbs FINALLY figured out that is an enormous piece of pie they they were letting one company devour. Someone had to do something. I think this is going to hurt Jam'n more than Kiss.

from all access
"When looking at the habits of BOSTON radio listeners, it is clear the music most favored by the biggest group of people is contemporary hit music," said SVP/Market Mgr. MARK HANNON. "BOSTON's New 103.3 AMP RADIO will serve the audience with all of the hits from artists topping the charts, and create a number of ways for listeners to interact with the station -- from live events to special appearances and contests."

Most likely those in cars especially will listen to 105.7 now....and maybe some will listen to the stream. Don't think people are gonna buy HD radios just for the WODS format, especially with the limited HD coverage.

I'd say dance. 92.3 NOW here in New York is heavily dance-based. As is other stations they flipped to with a similar format over the past few years.

25 years, not a bad run for WODS. Fortunately, WROR/105.7 should be able to grab the former WODS listeners with their own Classic Hits/Oldies hybrid. As for Top 40 on 103.3....... boring.

Just heard the announcement on the air, this was definitely unexpected. As much as I loved listening to WODS and their jingles, it will be great to finally have a new CHR station in Boston (figures that I'm moving soon). Before I went on to Radio Info to read about this, I assumed 103.3 was going to simulcast WBZ 1030.

i saw this on facebook as it broke, all i have to say is damn. yes it is about time someone went after Kiss, but at wods 's expense??

how ironic 103.3 was once whtt!

When they tried this with WHTT, they didn't blow up an established heritage radio station to do it, they were up against a much more loosely run Kiss 108, and Jam'n 94.5 didn't exist. and they STILL failed. This will go down as a massive blunder.

WROR should hire Paula and JJ tomorrow, and bring back jingles! But unfortunately they probably won't...
