Peter: this is NOT CBS-FM. That was part of a Joel Hollander "flip em all" technique that happened across the country. This is one station, a super-focused flip... same as WBCN to Sports Hub. I remember the heads rolling then... but it was the right move.

This flip has only been in the works for several weeks, mark my word. Laurenti was hired in good faith but due to the possibilities of what would have/could have ended up on the 101.7 frequency, CBS needed to make their move quickly.

I don't know who is doing the morning show for CBS's top-40 WXRK-92.3 ("Now") in New York, but I wouldn't be completely surprised if 103.3 (whatever call letters it gets) simulcasts it.

That could save a lot of money.

On the other hand, how about a "Maximum Hitz" morning show with reduced commercials and little (if any) talk/news/weather/traffic??

Current 92~3 Now New York lineup consists of:

Mornings: Lil Cee & Sarah Lee*see new message below*
Middays: Eutopia
Afternoons: Micki Gamez
Nights: Zann
Late Nights: DJ Toro or other jocks/weekenders

I don't think they'll simulcast - if Nick Cannon was still there...maybe. The current morning show is just trying to find their sea legs for "Now" (pun intended ). In fact, newly installed PD Rick Gillette has had to practically make over the entire staff - the original weekday lineup that started on 92~3 Now in March 2009 is all gone.

The Maximum Hits/Hitz idea is a fair one. I don't know how much "talk-time" Carson Daly gets on his Amp Radio L.A. morning show, but it's likely not as much as the KIIS-FM Ryan Seacrest show.

CBS hasn't made a habit of syndicating its CHR-based morning shows, though...at least, not yet.

Even in other formats, I can't think of many syndicated CBS morning shows - although that will change with the upcoming CBS Sports Radio Network, for example.

Yes, CBS should go CHR. It should have happened on WBMX.

Had WBMX-104.1 gone Top-40, it would have only required a tweak in the music and maybe the presentation. No announcers would have had to have been let go.

Bold move on the part of CBS....however, I give it about one year before the CHR is dropped for a simulcast of WBZ-AM. WODS had solid numbers and billing, demographics aside. NO ONE in the 18-34 demo is listening to radio to hear the hits. Further, they are splitting an audience with WBMX. I love good top 40 radio, so we'll see what happens. If the live and local jocks actually happen it'll be great for those of us that follow the industry, but, maybe aside from the AM drive, I don't think the average listener cares if the jock is the Man-in-The-Moon and voice tracking as well.

From what I read, it was the billing that caused the flip - CBS want's the money that WXKS/WJMN is bringing in for Clear Channel. If the ratings were there...was it just the case of sales being lazy and convincing the powers that be to flip it to make their lives easier? Wouldn't be the 1st time that happened...

As all format changes are, it is a money based decision, CBS is going after a younger audience, the music at their station did creep up in years, 60's is great but after awhile the audience get older. Lets face it how many big band stations are there now?

The older audience has an attachment to and a tradition of listening to the radio and disposable to income to buy the products advertised. The kids listen to streaming music on smart phones, ipods or satellite radio, have no attachment to broadcast radio, and especially given the economy and student loan debt, less disposable income to buy advertised products.

Let's see how amped CBS is going to be given these facts and the bad books to come! I'll say it again: They didn't learn JACK when they flipped CBS-FM in New York from Oldies/Classic Hits!
