Breaking: ESPN 24/7 on 850 Oct 5

The games on WBRU were just for one year. I think it was 2007. Since then overflow games have aired on WOON/1240: Woonsocket.

from Bruce Allen at Boston Sports Media Watch:

>>ESPN announces new deal for Ryen Russillo, and that The Scott Van Pelt show is now "SVP & Russillo" can be heard on 850 AM starting tomorrow

Ironic. John Dennis' voicemail to Ryen..."Is this Rodillo, or Rosillo, or Rotillo? John Dennis...Rotillo.
Listen. I don't know who the f--- you are...I GUESS you're on, the Zone...."

(has profanity)

Longstanding feud but "Rotillo" will be on 850...

(WEEI's) Call in number has been changed

New number is 617 779 7937

I suspect the toll-free number will change, and so will the number for text messages.

Mike Adams said the toll free is being eliminated as long distance is no longer an issue for most.

It was 2008, and I'm almost certain I've heard the occasional Sox game on WBRU since then.

from chat with Wolfe today:
Comment From Michele
listen live link to 850* directs to FM stream..will there be either a live internet stream and/or app stream for 850am?
1:24
Jason Wolfe: No, there won't be a separate stream for 850 Michele. ESPN streams the network from their own website so we didn't feel the need to add the second stream.

*---meaning on the WEEI.com site I presume not ESPN.com/ESPNBoston

also:
>>The Red Sox regular season games take precedence over the Celtics regular season. So in the event of a conflict in April, the Sox will be on 93.7 and the Celtics on 850. If it's a conflict with a Celtics playoff game, the C's get 93.7 and the Sox will air on 850

(Which is kind of like before only in the second case C's were on both 93.7 and 850 and Sox
bounced to RKO)

Supposedly every game of the MLB postseason is on 850 but some might not be; I think the noon
game yesterday may not have been. 93.7 has Sun., Mon., and Thu. night football.
850 has a BC game later in the week.

1200 had been carrying some Sun afternoon NFL but yesterday it seemed like 1510 had
Steelers-Eagles (I switched to 1200 and found the usual ha-ha comedy)

For the last month I have heard only a single local ad on 890. It was some Mike Adams spot for a tout service. Everything else was PSA's and national ads.

Tonight during the Coachman show I heard a lot more local ads, including one from Newbury Comics that mentioned its sponsorship of ESPN 850. Is this typical for a new format to take three months to get local ads? Is is a particularly positive sign for ESPN 850 or just regular?

Most likely it is a "value added" or spiff for a client to get a renewal (client that already advertises on another one of their stations). The timing would make sense that it started after the first of the year.
