Breaking News at WXNT!!

Hey I tried opening up another conversation about KLU, but so far only one reply.

Russ says it's no more than 6 spots an hour.

Live bodies? That may be debatable... and you can't really say that about 80% of their audience.

Yeah, I think you can, considering they seem to be the ratings winner consistently and WXNT well, just isn't.

Well, yeah.... that 75+ crowd doesn't have much better to do than sit around and fill out diaries. Ever seen a age analysis of their returns? It's the same crowd you find at the early bird special at Golden Corral. These people think Lawrence Welk re-runs are entertaining.

And after hearing about some of the moves Emmis is considering, they're obviously worried about SOMETHING in regards to IBC's position in the market. Otherwise the rumors make no sense.

I can't imagine so, but how is that relevant to the average age of the WIBC listener? Which, if memory serves, is over 65?

Fact:
Yesteday, the heads at WIBC and Emmis had a HUGE meeting. The main topic was that AM radio is dead, and that WIBC will be swtiching to FM, simulcasting on the heritage AM frequncy.

Rumor:
Which FM is getting the ax? Rumor is that the slow decline of B105 has been a concern at the top for a while.
All content would be the same, no hosts would be getting the ax.

Opinion:
Once again, WIBC will JUST improve their technical delivery. No content will be added, old, boring hosts won't be replaced, and people who will be alive in 5 years won't be interested. Good move guys.

TRG, how are things over at Emmis? I am guessing you work there, since you seem to know all their inner workings.
 
Things are great actually, but they obviously could need some improvement. How are things there? :)
 
105.7 has a high profit margin. Rumour was that 93.1 was about to be blown up. Later rumours have them buying 107.9 and moving WIBC there.

I still don't understand this criticism about age - isn't it logical that more people turn 65 everyday than turn 18? There are less children being born, but the biggest population - babyboom - are in early 50s to 65 or older - so based on that - the IBC 'target' audience should be growing by the day ...

and don't tell me the 40+ business white collar is listening to Q95 all day - they're talk/sports radio listeners.
 
If IBC is going to be simulcast on FM, I wouldn't be surprised to see it show up on 97.1 and hank change addresses to 93.1 or 105.7.

Either way, it would be a major waste of a signal...

Sorry for the delay, "E" - VACATION. I now live in Charleston - 630 WBMQ WAS "legendary" (over the years for its various formats in Sav - and always for its signal: 5kw-ND-day/5kw DA (three tower - east-west) night. The FORMER site was east of the city in a tidal marsh. Over the years, salt water took its toll on the integrity of the antenna structures (a "hammock" with the central tower supported by the other two). The day/night signal WAS awsome... Dispite the required null to protect WLAP (Lexington) and WMAL (Washington) to the north - WBMQ had a "local" coverage of "desirable" Hilton Head Island, Beaufort County, and Fripp Island - even "dependable" as far north as ChasTown (one of the best signals in the south) - NO LONGER!

Early in the "Dickey Regime", seems the tower painters no longer agreed to climb to coat due to the rust and degradation. The "brothers" decided - rather than deal with issues that (by 'n large) were STRICTLY economic - that it was less "stressful financially" to just aide 'n assist the 1kw gospel station with a "high 'n dry" tower in town. They are now diplexed into that one-tower 900 AM site they do not own with under 5kw by day and a whopping 47-watts at night.

Not long after, their popular morning show lost it's place in favor of CNN Headline News (EDT Fall and Spring "local sunrise" tends to be a bit late certain months on the coast). They literally gave the morning "prize" to technically-inferior CCU-owned 1290 (WTKS), who also managed to steal Rush and Boortz from them... SMOOTH MOVE! More proof of "The Clould's" resolve in Talk Radio!

I have no idea what goes on at Emmis other than I know its located on the circle. Other than a copy of my tax form, I don't know how else to prove I don't work there.

How are things at Entercom, by the way?
