Breaking News, Howie to WTKK!!!!!111111

"Sports Radio 2" ,680, WRKO. All sox games next season on 680; maybe a push to get the Bruins on 680/850 in 2008-09.

Any word on the synidcation deal(s) ???

I would guess syndie is out, 'RKO is self syndicating him now and ABC and SuperRadio have already done it in the past, I doubt WTKK would offer it, and if they did would stations in Portland and Bangor and other places fire their local morning show and put Carr on (as popular as he is in afternoon drive)

Wow major good news ! I can't wait to here Howie in the morning on WTKK and now I have NO reason at all to listen to any of WRKO. WRKO = new Air America perhaps? Maybe Felon Finneren will work for free now while the station desperately searches for new advertisers.

Disrespect your star and he leaves.

They have no plan B here, either.

Arrogance is its own worst enemy.

cjf68 - the funny thing is that Howie is taking Mike Barnicle's leftovers! Barnicle said no, Howie is second in line.

Neggy - was wondering myself if Col. Hunt will take the afternoons - God help RKO, Hunt is worse than Howie.

Will Virgin Boy do morning simulcasts from Fox 25 to RKO?
Couldn't be any worse than Finneran

Howie needs a new venue. His show was S T A L E. Maybe this will give him a new start - a different time,
a different shtick.

RKO, the FOURTH sports station in Boston. WBCN to follow...

Howie didn't want to wait as long as David Brudnoy had to for WBZ with the Hockey Team, which was forever.

I'm no fan of WRKO, but amidst all the hyperbole I'd like to pose the question...obviously ratings are a big gauge of "success" for a station, and word around the campfire has been WRKO's ratings have not been good, and I don't mean just in the 12+.

However, what really matters is the billing, and I have not seen much in that regard. Can anyone comment as to whether WRKO has actually been losing money? Both in the context of just the regular talk programming, and in the context of the WRKO/WEEI combo with the Sox games.

Does he put a dent into Dennis/Callahan AWM radio? I don't see it. Not during the RS, Pats seasons which seem to go year round. The boys will be bashing Clinton and Obama just like HC will. Only they will have more than the same six callers.
* Who picks up the IMan when he returns in Jan.'08?

What is most interesting about this is that it gives WRKO the chance to really look at themselves, figure out who they are, and implement the changes they need to make in order to fulfill the need. It actually is a great opportunity for them, if you think about it.

LOL...If I'm Bernie & Phyl's or 'Your New England (fill in the blank of a car-maker) Dealer,' I'll yank my advertising dollars and say, " Call me up when you're done looking at yourself."

all excellent points that need to be addressed:

1)Dennis & Callahan, hardly trembling in their space booties

2)How much does RKO and Howie bill out?

3)What is his salary at RKO, what will it be at WTKK

4)Bernie & Phyl, good one, will the advertisers go with him?

5)Are the Red Sox happy?

enquiring minds want to know

Hey, Imus or even Mancow could do mornings on 'RKO.What a fall from their Top-40 glory days, when they battled with 1510...

>>His show was S T A L E

several articles have said he has gotten great ratings (I won't divulge the number here but let's say he was second only to kiss 108) and made millions of dollars for Entercom, dollars that will now migrate to
Greater Media. How could his show be stale if it does so well?
You watch, WRKO's ratings (exc. for during Sox games) will go so low that people will clamor to put
Air America on there (either that or The Rosary 24/7...)

:D "The Rosary 24/7!".............I jusk fell off my chair laughing me arse off!.... Good One! Maybe 'RKO should become a clandestine "NUMBERS" station!...it would probably have more listeners! :D

My larger point is that they don't know who they are and that is the reason for the slide of late. So now, they have 2.5 months to get it together after Howie jumps ship. I can think of a hundred different things which could be done between then and now to make WRKO soar high again and so can most of the folks on this board. The key is this: Will they take advantage of this opportunity they've been handed. Will they look adversity in the eye and fix the situation. I would. ;D
