Bruce Jacobs Walks Away from XTRA 910

I very much enjoyed Bruce Jacobs. He was fun to listen to. He was passionate. He and Vinny (a.k.a giggles) played well off each other. In my opinion, he was at his best when he was on a rant about the issue of the day. Now there is a void in my sports talk radio listening day.

I can't listen to Jeff Dean. I've tuned in to his X-Factor program several times and found him to be a dullard. No passion. Not funny. It's not a requirement to be funny when doing sports talk radio, but it is a plus.

The other alternative is that 5 hour Gambo & Ash infomercial. That show comes on at 1:00 and it isn't until 1:25 or so when they actually start talking about sports. From that point until the show ends, they try to sell you cars, shoes, jewelry, insurance, tires, chicken wings, windows, patio furniture. They constantly hustle a mortgage broker, an accountant, a lawyer, a fitness guru, an eye surgeon and others. And the most annoying thing is their constant jabbering about the food and margaritas and service from anyplace where they are doing their remote broadcast. Other than that, their show is pretty good.

Dean was OK with Marotta. Maybe he needs someone to play off of. I found it interesting that Jacobs called in right after 4:00.

OK, so TMISU have a sucessor to McBland. ;D

Seriously, they did that on their XTRA 910 show as well. They over-pimp whoever they're doing a remote from (the various Native New Yorkers on Monday nights this fall, for example).

I completely agree. Gambo & Ash did just as much pimping when they were on XTRA 910. Jacobs and Marotta did some pimping, but to me anyway, it just didn't seem to be nearly as much.

Got to pay the bills right ???

Charles "CHucky" Goyette said that Jacobs and Barry Young were actually liberals, that became conservative to make it on talk radio.

So did he, but he couldn't keep up the act.

I don't think that's true about Charles. I believe Goyette used to say on his KFYI show that he was a Goldwater Republican and volunteered/worked for AuH2O back in the day.

I was being facetious. Charles wrote an article once stating (essentially) that his career in Az had been jeopardized
by differences with his conservative co-workers over his more liberal anti-war/anti-corporate views when (it was said at the time) that his ratings were actually not to blame.

Fixed that for you.

How thoughtful of you, Mr. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAugh.

IMO, KFYI's Dr. Bob Martin is the best at 'pimping.' Sometimes you don't know if he is helping someone or talking about a product. My next favorite is KTAR's Michael Dixon who can turn on a dime and go from reporter to advertiser within the same breath.

Wait......with Jacobs gone, how will I get all my information about the New York Jets, Yankees, and Mets.

Oh yeah I don't care about them, so I won't miss him. But I don't mind Bruce on KFYI, I use to listen to him, I probably still would if it wasn't for a shift in my schedule.

Johnny Carson, was a flaming lefty, but he didn't let it show for the years he was on TV. An true actor can play King or a peasant, etc. Barry Young sounds like a "liberaltarian."
