Bruce Palmer to do mornings begining Feb 25th

According to www.cruisinbruce.com Bruce begins his new gig on Worcester's "100.1 The Pike" on February 25th at 6 am.Bruce is the new morning guy.Got to give him credit for sticking it out and landing another gig again so soon.
It may not be oldies but Classic Hit's is the next closest thing.
Kudo's.

Heard Cruisin' Bruce and Chris Engel in the 5am hour today doing a Test Run of the Pike Morning show.

im glad bruce has landed a gig. but i cant help but laugh at the fact i just checked the pikes website and less than a week from his first day theres still no menchion of a morning show or any changes comming to the station.. you would think that they would wanna start promoting him or a morning show.........just my .02

It's probably not that strange to be quiet on promotion for the show at this point.

I've seen many shows do a "soft" landing, and then hit the news big just before the book.
With this year's spring book not starting til the first week of April, I wouldn't be suprised if they start splashing it big in
middle March after they get the show settled into a rhythm. Hence the reason they also did a test run of the show this morning ?

As of today (because it wasn't there yesterday when I checked), worcesterpike.com finally has mention of the new morning show starting Monday. Looks like newsguy Chris Engel (who is also the Music Director for the station according to his bio) will have some participation (other than the news updates) as he will provide some type of "Engel-tainment" update at 40 minutes after each hour.

Also they are ID's Bruce as "Cruisin Bruce Palmer"...as opposed to just plain old Bruce Palmer.

I did catch some of The Pike this morning while driving to work and heard, for the first time although I dont always listen to the station, an announcement to tune in Monday for the new show (again, ID'ing him as Cruisin Bruce Palmer). Never heard Bruce use the "Cruisin" any time I heard him on WSRS.

I just noticed that Chris Engel's bio has been removed from WXLO/Worcester's bio page. Engel had also been the news anchor there as well. Looks like he'll be strictly at The Pike.

Now that he is gonna be doing morning drive. He will have to get up early. Especially if the weather is bad.
How long is the ride to Worcester from Providence anyway?

I listened to the show this morning from about 730 until 9. Bruce did a good job and sounded good.

The "Engel-tainment update" is pretty useless. It's only about 60 seconds long, if that, and was just a couple of entertainment headlines (this morning, concerning the Oscars, of course) but no actual stories to them. Big deal. Otherwise, it's Chris Engel with a quickie news update at about 5 minutes before the half hour and some minor chatting with Bruce here and there.

I do feel that the show could use a real traffic reporter rather than Bruce giving traffic issues every few minutes.

Other than that, it sounded good. I'll listen again tomorrow when I can and I've got The Pike on at home tonite right now instead of Oldies 103.

I finally caught some of the show this morning; thought it sounded good, too.
More music than most morning shows..and I really like the music (just my humble opinion ;D)

Agreed, the Engel-tainment thing was a bit of a stretch. Just the show's nod to the seemingly un-avoidable morning show requirement to appease the gossip-hounds ? I'd say just stick to news & sports and leave the entertainment news garbage for the ACs & CHRs.

Also heard CruisinBruce mention in one of his traffic reports that he's just "taking care of scanning the roads until their real traffic guy comes on board." Sounds like the show will have a regular traffic reporter before long. I Wonder if they're going hook-up with a Providence or Boston-area TV station to use a bonafide meteorologist. Or has that been deemed un-necessary in this day & age ?

Overall, a solid show without a bunch of jumping through hoops. I wish him well, along with the legions of other recently-dumped Clearchannel jocks who deserve a better fate than to be un-ceremoniously dumped (despite good work ethics and strong ratings) in an effort to squeeze even more blood out of the turnip for their stock-holders.

Egad, what this business has come to.

Turns out Chris Engel has not left WXLO. Briefly tuned into WXLO this morning while scanning the dial during a commercial on The Pike and heard him doing the news update on XLO....the very SAME update, mind you, that he had just done minutes earlier on The Pike.

The Pike's news updates are at 20 past and 50 past the hour. XLO's are somewhere around the bottom and top of the hour or a couple minutes after.

There is a scrolling flash across the top of www.Cruisinbruce.com that reminds listeners to tune in Sunday to Lite Rock 105 but adds that a huge newsflash is coming this week about ANOTHER Providence station.

So he's got his morning show at Worcester's Pike-FM, Saturdays and/or Sundays at Lite Rock 105...and now possibly a third gig at another station??? Or maybe it's replacing Lite Rock?? Hmmmmmmm......

Could it be a Saturday night show at True Oldies 790 ? Didn't he do something like that at B101 ?

This sounds like a plan to me. It makes sense. I'm sure he could bring in sponsors & while I'm not expecting 790AM to be a major player in the ratings, if you listen to Bruce Saturday nights there's a fair shot you'll spend some time with the station during the week. Good weather's coming too so there are opportunities for car shows, etc.

If Bruce is coming to yet another Providence frequency then by a process of elimination it has to be WPRV. I wonder if they will let him play just about anything like they did at B101 when he did the saturday night oldies show. The True Oldies Channel is a combination of classic hits and oldies. There are some "oh wow" songs but they're not obscure by any means. Most were oldies staples just a few years ago. Another possibility is airing him on The Pike's sister oldies station. Wherever he ends up it'll be a Citadel station.

Bruce did the All-Request Oldies Show on Saturday nights, at the B, from the early 90's into the early 2000's. Jeff Ryan also worked that show with Bruce, and can provide further details.

The True Oldies channel that is taking place of the Score on AM is going to be a satelite show coming in from another station if my info serves me correct. It's basically like Mike FM. only, if there are DJ's there not in the building, and all the stop-sets have to timed exactly, with every spot being a :30 or :60 on the dot.
