BRW: WKOX, WUNR, WRCA might boost power

Today, if you are, say, 15 miles south-southwest of 100 Mt Wayte Ave, the signal you receive during the day is something like 3.2 mV/m. After the upgrade, if you are the same distance in the same direction from 750 Saw Mill Brook Pkwy, the signal will be just a little bit more than half--that is, about 1.8 mV/m. Because the signal strength is proportional to the square-root of the equivalent power, this is equivalent to a power reduction of a little less than 4:1. At night, it appears that the change will be smaller and in the opposite direction. The night signal to the south of the Newton site will be marginally better--equivalent to about twice the power of the current night signal due south of Framingham. But the night signal in that direction is really tiny now--equivalent to maybe 60W. It will be the equivalent of maybe 120W after the upgrade.

The town is, I believe, Wrentham, and the amount of land is closer to 60 acres than to 26.

No, let them put on libs and get 0.1 in the ratings. That's like saying the
Red Sox have too many good hitters and pitchers and need to get rid of a few.
We need a counterbalance to the Globe, local and national TV outlets, etc.
that are left-leaning. If it works, why change it?

The quality (if that's the word) conservative talk outlets, being WTKK and WRKO, are doing well. Even if the programming is crap or not, they are doing well at the moment.

The crappy conservative talk outlet, WTTT, is not doing well. Sure, Salem can sell national ads on 1150, but locally, WTTT has never shown up in 12+.

WTTT example shows that not all conservative talk will work in Boston, and WKOX/WXKS shows that a satellite liberal talk format on poor signals doesn't exactly take the area by storm either. CC has Glenn Beck and a few other Premier talkers that are not on in Boston. If conservative talk works in Boston as it is, without these talkers, then why change it? And, as I said below, CC appears to see FM talk as the future of conservative talk (and in Madison, WI, liberal talk).

Re: The Future Of WKOX (Was: Re: BRW: WKOX, WUNR, WRCA might boost power)

Having been in New England for a couple of months I only have a preliminary assessment; I would have expected raccoon to be right about the left leaning local outlets- and would have been happy about it. Unfortunately, raccoon is wrong here. The Boston Herald is a right wing tabloid. Local Fox TV News and Fox News Channel are everywhere. Many local papers, from New Hampshire's Union Leader, the group of Dow Jones "local" papers, and Andover's paper, are right wing. The Boston Globe has been on a one-paper mission against the popular Democratic Mayor of Boston (who was re-elected by a big margin). I have picked up a few free tabloids and been shocked at the right wing talking points and opinions- It makes George Will look like a leftist. I am sure I have only scratched the surface. So much for your left leaning local outlets. In NC we had far more progressive Newspapers than here.. and I never thought of any of them being liberal (Other than the Independent). National outlets: we could talk that to death elsewhere...

Boston needs a liberal talker with some punch. Malloy, Maddow, Seder, and Rhodes all fit the bill. Springer and Schultz are not the right way forward.
