I loved the Kennedy and Suits pairing. It was a case of 1+1=3.
I like Suits alright but it'd be good if got a decent partner--I'd listen more often.

Never could figure out what was to like about Hendrie.
Joe Crummy probably knows better than to leave his current gig. I liked him.
Conway is OK.
Mr. KABC is tiresome.
Zigler is unbalanced but sometimes entertaining.
Resnick is OK.
KABC has been dismantled and destroyed. I never listen to it now...except Hannity once in awhile.
Bob Brinker is an arrogant twit who couldn't time his way out of a cuckoo clock.
I don't listen to Handel.
I listen to John and Ken sometimes.
Dennis Praeger is good.
Kevin James is OK.
I don't listen to Whitman.
Roger Hedgecock is OK.
Of course, it's not like anybody asked me.

Generally speaking, a standalone talk show host does not always do well by themselves at any station; having a counterpart (e.g. John and Ken) almost always works much better. Suits is kinda boring on his own, but with Kennedy there they were far more entertaining. I feel that way about John and Ken when one or the other is out, but together they're great. It simply adds entertainment value when you have two (or more) people hosting a show; Zigler was pretty good on his own and probably could have been OK by himself, but Suits is not Zigler and needs a partner.

BTW, Why is KFI such a revolving door? The mainstays (Handel and John & Ken) are always there, but every other time slot seems to change like the wind.

And until recently, Dr. Laura was on Noon-3:00 for how long? And Coast-to-Coast AM has been on for how long? I think it's pretty much only been the 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. slot that has been revolving. Pretty stable lineup overall, if you ask me.

Let's see. Stern. Limbaugh. Hannity. Dr. Laura. Clark Howard. Boortz. The biggest names, past and present, in talk are solo acts.

On a local level, from Ronn Owens in San Francisco to Neil Rogers in Miami, it's mostly solo acts that work consistently.

Handel, Rush, Laura, John&Ken, ACC, and many weekenders have been there for an eternity in radio years... The Laura departure seems to be one the stations wanted, and only nights have been less stable, but still we are talking aobut maybe three different shows in 10 years.

The problem with dual or multiple hosts is that they are all trying to compete for air time and there usually is a dominant one and usually a secondary one. The best example of this is the John and Ken show. John is the brilliant, passionate and articulate of the two. Ken is the average, wimpy second banana who keeps interrupting John in mid-sentence.

There was a classic example of this last week. They were interviewng Scott Talbot who was a banking industry lobbyist. John was trying to have him answer the question as to why banks were charging their good credit card customers up to 30 percent interest. It was great radio except, Ken kept interrupting with softball questions and meaningless banter. The embattled guest picked up on this and requested that the remainder of the interview be conducted by Ken. This guy would have then ran all over Ken. Luckliy John stood his ground and ripped into the guest until he was forced to toss him off the air. The whole point being that when you have multiple hosts you usually get this. A host is on a roll and then the other host interrupts and distracts the flow of the interview. Clearly the John and Ken show would be a better show if it were a solo John show.

Bryan suits is the Ken Champou of that show and therefore having Kennedy missing really destroyed that show.

The more I thought about that last post I made, the more I realized you guys were right- it's the 7-10pm timeslot that is the revolving door, not the entire staff. I guess I had tunnel vision since I only have a chance to listen to Handel, John and Ken and whatever they give us in the 7-10pm timeslot anyways.

As far as having two hosts instead of one, I suppose one could make an argument either way but it just depends on the hosts. I can think of some sports shows that were kinda 'blah' until another person was added, and it really helped those shows. I listen to Bill Handel often and I've heard him solo and also with his sidekicks (forgot their names...sorry)- and I have to say I like him either way but his interaction with the others just adds a nice dimension to the show. But to your point(s), some guys who are solo do just fine as well; Ronn Owens and Gene Burns at KGO in San Francisco are awesome by themselves. On the flipside, John and Ken are much better as a pair, JT the Brick is much better with Tomm Looney, etc.

So with all that, I back off what I said earlier...to a point.
