Bu-bye Andy Sumereau

Apparently the latest Forever employee in the unemployment line is State College GM Andy Sumereau. I can feel the air off of those revolving doors.

Good guy. He'll land on his feet. How many general managers have they gone through, since they arrived in State College? Who in their right mind would take that job?

I agree. Andy is a really good guy and was well liked by the staff. Rod Burnham, Tom Yorchack, Don Bedell and Andy have all been in that position. I find it very hard to believe that each and every one of them lacked the ability to manage the cluster. But let's face it, we've all been puzzled by the decisions of that company. It's my understanding that all of the former GM's are still in the area and doing well. Best of luck to Andy. I'm sure that he'll find something good, too.

Andy is a great guy...one of the best GM's I've ever worked for.

Agreed.

I didn't know Andy, but everything I heard about him was positive. When you burn through four GMs in eight years maybe--just maybe--the problem is not with the GMs.

Makes you wonder how some people sleep at night.

I can't imagine hiring the next GM will be easy. There is no amount of money that would persuade me to put up with that nonsense.

Interesting how only one level of management is accountable over years of turmoil and dissappointment. And that level does not make the decisions responsible for failure.

If they owned a chunk of the company, maybe they could make the decisions - right or wrong.

Sell, indeed. Since Forever and its various subsidiaries are owned by a trust, and apparently controlled by one person or a small group of people, it's unlikely that anyone will have the chance to "own a chunk" any time soon. But as I pointed out in a previous post, Forever State College is potentially vulnerable to a well capitalized, dedicated, patient competitor.

I further point out that Forever (and 2510 Licenses) together control about half the stations that get Arbitron ratings in State College. These, of course, include stations that are licensed to other communities, like Altoona and nearer small places, but that still show up in the State College book. (Eight stations for Forever and 3 stations for 2510. which together attract 56 percent of the audience.)

Most of this depends on whether R&R's Arbitron list, Radio-Locator and the FCC date base are all up to date, which isn't always the case.

Again, we're talking about the State College "metro" and not other areas where Forever may have stations, which I understand is all over PA and parts of Ohio.

Summereau just left the building a few days ago. These things take time. When Hot became 103 Qwk-Rock, the Hot 103 web site remained up for several weeks thereafter. Besides, no sense deleting the employee, then going on later to add the new employee, etc. No one will stop listening to the station because their favorite air personality is or is not listed on the web site. Assuming Summereau was "asked to leave", I'd say that Forever has more things to concentrate on at this moment than his name being on the web site. They need to get his replacement lined up and in place and do damage control with any clients who may be edgy about another change.

The average listener will never notice. Heck, I was gone from B103 for nearly 2 years when I'd run into people saying "I listen to you all the time"...They have no idea. They get into "routines" and its all second nature to them. I'd be more concerned if they made updating the web site a top priority and said "we will hire someone when we get around to it".

It's official...the sun DOES revolve around you Steve. I am going to start reading the Nebraska Board and see if you can work your time at B103 into a post there too!! C'mon on Steve, do it for me...I was your biggest fan when you were on B103.

Guess you missed my point...the listeners may have recognized my name...but did not even realize I was gone...never missed me! They just don't pay that much attention normally (except for the real radio nuts). No one cares if their names are still on the website...only radio geeks like us would pay attention to that.

Actually, I'm not a radio geek and I care. :-*

No, I got your point..."how can I work my narcissistic self into a post about someone I (probably) have never met."

Hmm...narcissistic? Come to think of it, I once saw a book called "I'm ok...you're ok"...Also, I think my mom told me to love and respect myself as a person so I could love and respect others too. So yeah...do I like me??? Probably. But do I think I am God....Nope...far from it.

I make lots of mistakes and I admit it. And my opinions of myself have nothing to do with my comments on this subject. Was just pointing out the obvious. We all enjoy this business, but to the listeners, we are castaways. One quits or gets fired, he or she gets replaced and the world marches on (unless you are Howard Stern or Rush or someone of that calibre...of which the last time I checked, I did not think there was anyone in this market including myself I would say that about)

Anyway...have a good day. Anyone care to take a strike at the next big word we want to toss out there? Remember...cross narcissistic off the list...its been taken already

;D
