Bubba on the way...

The more I think about it, the more I realize I don't have a life and Bubba is a perfect fit on KD. You could do his show without music and Quinn would provide him with the perfect foil like Todd Schnitt in Tampa. Bubba could go after CC and try to take down his natural rival in the market. A 50,000 signal is almost as good as FM and KDKA needs help. I think this is a winner! ;D

First question- why are we all convinced Bubba is coming to Pittsburgh?

Second question- The idea of 93.7 flipping to classic rock was kind of interesting.

Imagine-

March 2009- 93.7 goes back to K-Rock with Bubba as morning man.

June 2009- Bubba says something and gets taken off the air.

August 2009- Format switches to all talk. Doug Hoerth makes comeback in afternoon drive and John McIntire does four hours every day on why you should write in Bill Peduto instead of cast a ballot for Luke Ravenstahl in the mayor's race.

Sept. 2009- We're back to B-94.

Feb. 2010- Clear Channel picks up NASCAR. In order to promote the races on 93.7, they take on the "John Boy and Billy" morning show.

July 2010- Realizing the attraction of political talk with a Governor and Senate race underway, Clear Channel convinces Lynn Cullen and Gab Boneso to have sex change operations and revive The Man Station format.

July 2, 2010- 200 Fleet Street goes up in flames. Every single person in Pittsburgh collaborates, explaining they simply could not take the new Mr. Boneso and Cullen on billboards, and it's here we go again from makeshift studios.

How do get the previous person's comments into little boxes so you can answer them? Seriously, I don't see how Bubba can come to Pittsburgh unless there is a format flip. CC , I assume is finished with him, but sometimes they amaze. KBIG in LA has an HD 2 that is advertised as "Gay" radio. If conservative CC can do that for money, why not forgive a guy you canned, AND FOR MONEY-----put him on the X, DVE, or flip 3WS to classic rock. I still think he would be a perfect fit for a Froggy or KDKA. HOW ABOUT BUBBA JUMPER OR BUBBA THE HORNED TOAD. MAYBE BUBBA GUMP. BUBBA FLY SNAPPER. Doug Hoerth could have a sex change too. They cost less in Thailand

BUBBA THE LOVE SALAMANDER----------mornings on FROGGY . Bubba will ooze his way into the hearts of Western Pennsylvania. He can have Jack Murtha and old voices from Cordic and Company mixed in as his sidekicks. He could rave about PITTSBURGH's BRIDGE TO NOWHERE! He could slaughter a pig ( with or without lipstick) in the courtyard at Station Sq.

I think I remember Bubba being on WEBN in Cincy in the 90's. It might have been syndicated. I think J Corp. owned them at that time. Before the CC days.

Yes, that show originated from FLZ in Tampa, before he moved to mornings at 98 Rock.

Ok, let's start with the fact that CBS owns 93.7, not CC.

And I'm not convinced that he's coming. I was just commenting on the speculation that he might be... because as everyone agrees, there aren't many logical places for him to land here. And as I've come to find out, there are BTLS posts on multiple cities' boards, so someone's just trying to stir things up. Maybe even his own people.

But if Cox was, in fact, still going to buy the CBS cluster, I could have guaranteed he would be on.

By the way, there was a RVP of programming in this market a while back who thought John Boy and Billy would work here.

I can see why John Boy and Billy would not work in Pittsburgh . Too Southern Fried. Besides they are probably Carolina Panthers fans. Bubba, however, is a timeless classic like Sid Caesar or Ernie Kovacs, and he would be a good fit anywhere.

It's just a progression from Klavin &Finch to Lohman & Barkley to Cordic & Co to BTLS

Maybe. The steps along the way would be O'Brien and Garry, the various combinations on DVE's morning show and Stern, even though he was off the satellite. Without Stern, Bubba's working in a carwash.

I stand corrected, Part.

However, it should be mentioned that John Boy and Billy WERE carried in Pittsburgh for a period of time.

In the early part of the decade on Sunday mornings Fox Sports 970 carried John Boy and Billy, who syndicated a weekly NASCAR show.

Would they work here? I don't know. They are carried in Wheeling, for whatever that is worth.

However, I would hate to see a local jock replaced by another syndicated program.

Dear Pratte
Lynn Cullen wouldn't need a sex change operation to be on the Man Station.

Dear Boss
You're 100% right about BTLS being nothing without Stern. In my opinion, he is nothing with Stern.

I'd actually heard that Bubba was related to Randy Michaels, the former Jacor maniac who ran CC through most of the consolidation years... don't know if that's true, but if it is, it's all you need to know.

That explains the thing for pigs. From the "Power Pig" to whacking a pig on the air. ???

He'd be nothing without Stern IS probably correct since Howard gave him an opportunity, but Bubba has the second most listened to show on satellite radio. Second to????? He has translated that into effective ratings in Tampa and Jville, and from the last two years has good information on how his merchandise has sold in specific zip codes. Apparently, he sells a lot of merch in Pburg. That's good research to have in hand when you go shopping your show, don't you think?

Jack
I can't say that BTLS has not been successful and Stern obviously likes him. Otherwise, he wouldn't have given him a chance. I didn't understand the choice, given Howard's opinion of shock jock Howard Stern wannabees like Bubba but I'm sure Howard and Sirius had their reasons (ratings and revenue). It's just a personal preference thing with me. With the exception of Howard, I have never found any shock jock particularly entertaining.

To some extent I think Howard may have felt responsible for BTLS getting canned in FL (and essentially he was.... after the Super Bowl "Wardrobe Malfunction", CC bailed on Howard and was then in an indefensible position with Bubba... his Tampa show on 98 Rock was billing $3 mil a year and they still had to let him go, they couldn't risk their licenses). And obviously he felt Bubba would fit on his satellite channel.

I'm actually more surprised that he's going back to terrestrial syndication. I have to assume that the Sirius gig wasn't paying that much. I'm also still stunned that it's Cox doing this, as they have sucked the life out of Florida radio with mind-numbing 300-song formats, stations with 2 jocks, and calling stations "new" for 7+ years.
