was noted and feted the other night at the Portland Eagles' club.
in attendance, from what i hear, were many of Bud's compadres from radio daze gone by, including Gary Dixon, Roger McKinney, Judy Michaels Pancoast, Bonnie Grant, Bob Gold.
anyone else there who can fill in the blanks as to the evening's event and the other luminaries on hand?
and Kudos, Props, BZs and AttaBoys to Wellington "Bud" Sawyer who has made a life out of a life's passion. even in the lean times, Bud stuck to his guns - (his family, faith and love of radio) - doing what he had to do to satisfy all of his priorities.
as Gary Dixon once noted on a send-off recording (for a different Portland-area broadcaster) i'd heard years ago - "A pat on the back is just 18 inches away from being a kick in the *ss" - but Bud is really deserving the former, not the latter.
my only concern is Bud's new hobby....
woodcarving....
with a chainsaw....
i'm not kidding.
