A few saturday's ago, this was on "adelphia 13" ( i know...*sigh),
and it was awesome to see the following:
I had my non-radio job I had to get back to, but did happen to see:
1. Art Wander's Segment, and his *BLAST* at the consultant's of today.
In Part:
"...I Ran 35 radio stations, in markets, small medium and large...
and we didnt have consultants, suits, etc _..." He continued to
remark about a PROGRAMMER should earn their $$$ programming!
(agree)
2.
It was also*AMAZING* to see....these 400 some PEOPLE,
be PEOPLE !! Say some one from channel 2, could comment
on a channel 4 talent, and there was no uncomfortable silence.
Also, its important to note: There was no cheap shots, or low-blows...
a little hazing, maybe but nothing dirty.
3.
(more like 2.B)
there was an acceptance with each station being there, and no sense
of rivals... ie: Don Paul, when speaking didnt have to dance around and
say "...the 'other' channels sports director"......
-he addressed him "ED...."
Or
other speakers didnt have to say some thing like:
"...currently at...WGRZ, but when I was 'some where else' early
in my career at 'the other station' the biggest ICON....
(ryhmes with 'nerve'), mentored me, at WKBW........ lol
It was GREAT to see the room at ease, despite every day a thread
and post on this forum, speculating who maybe fired next; or why
radio may be off the aire in the near future....
4.
this was important to me...
(4A)
no station was "over rePresented"
....and, some thing like a 50 years of WKBW/lifeTime award ...
was followed by some thing completely different,
(i believe it was jamestown radio icon, unfortunately i am un aware who he was),
but another VERY PROFESSIONAL !!
glad it wasnt: wgrz, wgrz, wgrz, and the same station getting all the attn!
(4B)
Sue O'neil seemed to be the MC, along with Don Paul.
and both were extremely professional !!!
glad it wasnt like:
it was Hi, I'm Sue...listen to me, and log onto mystar...
or...(awarding the previous winner).... "another fine excellent talent,
and speaking of excellence, our star 102 sales staff.....
NONE OF THAT BS.
this said ALOT for the industry,
if i was in the business, i would be PROUD to be a part of the
Buffalo Broadcasters Association!!! truely, the best!
