Buh Bye Bigby. Welcome back Ghil-Bear.

http://www.ntsmediaonline.com/

CBS Radio/Dallas has named Bruce Gilbert as VP/News, Talk and Sports. In his new gig he’ll oversee FM Sports/Talker “105.3 The Fan” and News/Talk KRLD. Gilbert, who spent a number of years in Dallas as OM/PD of crosstown Sports/Talker KTCK “The Ticket” under then-owner Susquehanna Broadcasting, joins CBS from his current role as CEO of Red Zebra Broadcasting/Washington. “

(snip- so the mods' dont freak about how much I'm C&P'ing...)

Tom Bigby will return to his role as VP/Strategic Programming for CBS Radio, working closely with the company’s Sports/Talk outlets and broadcaster’s senior management team.

Well then... they are going to need some on air talent and then clone the little Ticket's format.

Who taught you how to spell?

But he left the little ticket to go to ESPN and now he just left Red Zebra Broadcasting? Sounds like his best days are behind him, to me.

Bruce Gilbert is a pro. And, a class act. If anyone can turn that Johnson/ Bigby/ Purdy hunk-o-crap around, it is him. This will be fun to watch.

Gspit, you took the words right out of my mouth. Bruce left The Little Ticket BECAUSE of his accomplishments there, and went on to much bigger and better things. The only reason he's gone from Red Zebra now is because the place is POISON! Working for little Danny Snyder is WORSE than working for Jerry Jones. I realize that might be hard to imagine...but it's the truth. Gilbert is the second major player at Red Zebra to leave in the last few months. There's just not much life there anymore.

Bruce is now in a position to do away with Bigby's "Philadelphia" crew, along with their smoker encrusted throats and their irritating South Phillie accents. Let's hope he does it quickly. Let's hope he sends Bigby packing back to WIP as well.

Welcome home Bruce! I hope the CBS-Dallas cluster way of doing things doesn't suck the life out of you. Hope your title places you over said "Market Manager", otherwise you will fight an uphill battle from the outset.

I wonder how much he will be able to do with KRLD-FM. They've had so much turnover since they've come on the air...they can't keep taking people off the air (and paying out the contract) and hiring new folks, can they? They have yet another new show to pay for since isn't August supposed to be when Lex & Terry start their weekday show on 105.3 (the former KEGL contract finally expiring).

Bruce Gilbert isn't coming to coach Lex & Terry.

Hmmmm....let me think. Minnesota started chasing Brett Farve by hiring coaches that led him to previous success....hmmm

When it launched, FAN is rumored to have missed opportunities to attract talent (Rhyner) because of concerns about working under David Henry and Tom Bigby...both found the exit in recent weeks...hmmm

As I recall, the Dunham, Miller, Keith deal with Cume-you-less runs through 2010 or 2011 and has a 6-month non-compete. Correct me if you know better. If so they should be preparing for negotiations....hmmm

Now, would Dunham, Miller, and Keith rather:

broadcast on a 9k AM stick or a 100K FM? I am certain I know the answer to that question.

work for Jeff Catlin or Bruce Gilbert? - I think I know the answer to that question

Lew Dickey & Cumulus (the power of radio) or Dan Mason & CBS? - I am certain I know the answer to that question.

Stars vs Cowboys? I am certain I know the answer to that question.

TICKET programing and mgmt is on cruise control with what is left of Gilberts work and nobody is at the wheel. D&M know it. Gordon knows it. Rhynes knows it. Bob Sturm knows it.

So does this mean Jagger's gone?

Met him at Ticketstock once. Nice guy. I'll give his station a try, but I'm a Ticket P1. Not inclined to change my loyalty to stations unless all the guys move over there with him.

Gilbert is a "radio guy". I don't know what he knows about news/talk ops like KRLD-AM but it would be almost impossible for him not to improve 105.3fm's "product".

Eve T - not the talent, the talent is beyond great. I am talking about station mgmt and their corporate parent. Local management and Cumulus bring a giant bag of nothing to the party.

I know nothing of the inner workings for Cumulus and I'm not defending them in anyway.

I do wonder, though, exactly why is anyone surprised that they would be, as some have said, asleep at the wheel?

Given the continued dominance by the Ticket even in the face of big-moneyed competition from ESPN and now CBS, I think the smartest things any corporate overlords can do right now is stay the heck out of the way. Don't mess with success lest you kill the goose that keeps laying those golden ratings eggs.
