BULLETIN...BULLETIN...WTVY AIRSTAFF WALKS

If The Radio People put any format on other than news talk, then they are stupid....except maybe Hot AC. If they turn 937 into another country station..that will be proof that they are no more intelligent than Tragic.

Here's a bit of trivia for all you folks. This is the SECOND time the Holliday family has purchased WRJM. The first time was in the fall of 1987 when WRJM was "Classic 105.7" and licensed to Troy-Montgomery. The owner, Jack Mizell, was almost in bankruptcy when the station was sold (for around 3 million if I remember correctly.) Mizell had a purchase agreement for WGEA AM-FM in Geneva at the time. New South got the 105.7 station, but Mizell kept the call letters and moved them to 93.5, a 3000 watt FM. He was successful in getting the station power up to 100,000 watts with a frequency change to 93.7 several years later. Fast forward to 2008 and a bankrupt WRJM is sold to the same new owners. I wonder if Holliday will change the call letters?

By the way, many people thought the calls stood for "Rita and Jack Mizell". Jack's wife's name is Alice Faye (one of the nicest ladies I've ever known.) I asked Jack back in '87 if the letters stood for anything in paticular. He told me WHJM (his initials) were unavailable, so WRJM was chosen because he liked the way it sounded.

As usual Preem has an excellent suggestion. Any of the combinations work for me but I don't know if Wendy wants to start getting up again at 3:30a. Certainly major market voice and talent.

That is very interesting...that WRJM has been sold twice to the same group of folks. I used to listen to "Classic 105.7" when I lived up in Hoover, and was listening when the station switched its format from country and when the call letters were changed from WIGC to WRJM the following day. I remember the signal was enormous! I lived up on Shades Mountain at the time, and I could hear it extremely well with the station xmtr being up on that 1800' tower. My goodness, that seems like forever ago. I hated to see the original WRJM go, though. The soft AC's during that time were coming up everywhere, so I usually wound up dividing my time listening to WRJM and WLTB in Birmingham, which basically was identical, format-wise. I also used to listen to the "new" WRJM in Geneva (pre-talk days) when my wife and I visited her parents who were living in Brewton at the time.

I've heard three different accounts of how the call letters were chosen. I've heard the "Rita and Jack Mizell" story of how the calls were selected for their initials. I've also read on the board that Jack Mizell actually wanted the calls WJRM, for "Just the Right Music" but those were unavailable, so he took the WRJM calls because they were similar. And now your account that they were chosen because they were similar to his initials. Since that info came from him, I guess that finally solves the mystery. :)

With a small-market, over-sized ego unfortunately.

Rita is the name of Jack's sister.

Rick and Bubba now on 95.5 wtvyfm . that was the news at 5:20 boy i was hopeing for Don Day

OMG(lol?) Rick & Bubba?!? Seriously? On, what, 3 stations now? And here I was holding out for the McCoy and Storey Morning Madness :p

 I was waiting on a BIG announcement!!!!!

What's the big deal about tweaking some amps! The good news is that no matter where you are at in little market 192 you can now hear Rick & Bubba...

Cost of Tragic Morning Talent- $21,000
Cost of Distribution AMP- $35
Rick & Bubba on 3 Stations- PRICELESS!
***Credit to Master Card Commercials***

If Tragic is trying to make budgets and show some profits I have their next move and its a winner! Can Stephanie and Stephano , hell even turn off Steve Harvey and you will save a few thousand. And run Rick and Bubba on all 5 stations! How about them apples...

HEY HERE IS A NEWS FLASH!!!!!!! www.955wtvy.com is back up and running! And if you look under jocks they have a whole line up! R&B in the Mornings, Traci, Kris Van Dyke, and Wild Bill makes a return!

I went even further....Checked 103.9 and 100.5 websites and NO Rick and Bubba. Dave Gilligan is back on Mornings at 103.9 and Bill is still in the afternoons. 100.5 have Richard Stevens and Lori St. James on in the mornings. Some where in the mix Kelly Galore will be back on....Either on 100.5 or 103.9 lets face it how long can Bill do 3-7 on 103.9 and 7-mid on 95.5. I have no doubt of his ability to do it but even the best of us would get burnt out after awhile. If you speculate even further how long will Traci do mornings on KMX and mid-days on 95.5? They have freed up quite a bit of money so maybe they will just syndicate them all and then all they would need is an engineer. I've got it, put Kid Kraddick on KMX in the morning, put Stephano back on mids and Bryant back in afternoons and Aaron on nights...Sorry but Baker would be out. Traci could stay at 95.5, she sound more at home there. BUT...They didn't ask me!

How about that.....thats exactly what I expected from PC...Magic moves a show they are already paying for over to TVY... they now don't have to pay a salary for their morning host, or insurance, or gas, or a promotional budget, or other perks , or anything else for that matter. Why does Jeff Storey see this as a smart move?? Yeah you have saved a bunch of money- but they couldn't sell $5 spots on Rick & Bubba , but now they plan to sell them for $45... and now you have no personal connections with the fans. I will be surprised if KVD or Storey has a job after this one!!!!

Clay's a decent operator. Tragic is toast. Romer made the best observation of 7 pages of this --- $1.1M for 100kw.
Even by today's standards that a damn good deal. Wonder when Tragic will sell their AL and Panhandle stations for
that (entire cluster)...

Tibbs,

You're right in that $1.1 does sound like a good price...Until you figure in that the "leaning tower" has GOT to be fixed/replaced...and that most (If not ALL) of the equipment (Including even the exciter and xmter) will need to be replaced...

Add all of that up and 1.1 million doesn't seem like such a good bargain anymore. That is, unless you're into starting a broadcast equipment museum! :D

And, as far as bring the princess back...I think KVD is trying to get the egos OUT of the building...Not bring them back! lol

KVD need to keep all the egos out...There is no room for anymore, his ego takes up all the space. I worked with the guy several years back, can't imagine he has changed much. but that being said The princess had an ego to match and about the only person that would hop back on this crashing Tragic Train because of her ego. Hope she realizes something....There's no going home again.

ahh come on....who says you can't go home? ;D
The Throne needs a new queen. Who better than the Princess? She has the talent, the backbone, & the ego. She has all the "the"s :-*

She will have to go home if she wants back into radio, Tragic is her ONLY option in this market. She has burned too many bridges...Oh and how soon people forget. She did the same to her fans that TVY did to theirs, on a much smaller scale that is. She couldn't play the game her way so she quit. Some things never change. There is no room at Tragic for creativity, it's one way JS's way or the highway.

Holladay's got the cash to fix all the towers in AL. But, you are right about those add-on expenses. Actually, I bought a station
years ago that cost more to maintain and rebuild than the license itself. Strong and painful lesson learned. Explains why it was
so "cheap." Still probably only worth $500,000, but whose counting???

Sounds all to close for comfort? Exactly why Amie left, I don't forsee Kelly staying long before she has a run in with KVD.

$45 bucks? That's all it was? And I bet that was for an agency :60 too. Number 1 and that is all they could demand for morning drive? So converted to thirties, local net, about $22 for morning drive? Magic is probably happy all that morning payroll is gone 'cause the price per spot sure couldn't justify it. Wow, that's really sad.
