Here's my confusion, TMM--I think 100.7 has already tried the "80s/90s/today" approach before, if not necessarily saying so outright. 'Q100' saw tweaks from CHR to Hot AC and back into CHR, with their a semi-successful stint as classic rock 'Arrow' somewhere in between.
Not to mention that 104.1 did the same thing as Star 104 just a few years back. Same tower, same height, same power. These two stations have wasted 10 years morphing the same formats trying to hit WABB and it is not working. I think it will take a serious format change to get people back to these two stations. I expect Journey's ratings will actually go down from Q-100's anemic numbers.
That stint as Arrow 100 was far more successful and lasted quite a bit longer than their year or so as Urban AC Magic 100. Considering all the morphing of Q-100 (CHR, Top40, AC... it all sounds the same to me), Arrow might have lasted longer than any other format on 100.7. That's why we all have fond memories of Arrow..
Did you know that REM is Classic Rock now? My "Athens, GA Inside/Out" LP doesn't seem very old.

...I will say that at some point in the every near future WCOA should begin simulcasting on a full market FM signal.
Problem is that Pensacola only has
ONE full market signal, WRRX 106.1. What's strange is that I understood Cumulus Pensacola purchased 106.1 with the intent of putting WCOA on it... which would have made it one of the first FM talk stations in this part of the country. They wound up sticking with music on FM and went with Rock and Lex and Terry on 106.1 and beat up on TK101 for awhile.
It appears the only chance Pensacola will have for FM talk would be a translator or someone moving in an existing small town FM from somewhere in South Alabama.
How else could it be done. How will Pensacola, FWB, and Mobile get their primary AM talk stations on FM? Overlapping signals owned by Cumulus and Clear Channel carrying the same programming isn't going to happen.
