BYE-BYE KS107-5?

That might be the case if Bonneville (reportedly) emerges as a bidder and possibly an eventual winner of the Lincoln Financial Media sweepstakes. According to at least one radio trade publication, Salt Lake City-based Bonneville is most interested in LFM's Denver cluster. Country KYGO, Smooth Jazz KJCD and the AM's are pretty safe, but Bonneville is very uncomfortable operating Urban and/or CHR/Rhythmic stations.

Case in point: Bonneville recently purchased Hip-Hop KKFR (Power 92.3) in Phoenix and then sold off the "intellectual property" (i.e. station name, call letters, format, employees) to Riviera Broadcasting who moved the station to another (and lower power) frequency.

If Bonneville should grab the LFM Denver cluster, might we finally see an FM News/Talk station akin to their KSL/SLC, WTOP/Washington, and KTAR/Phoenix FM N/T flagships? Who would be the likely buyer of KS107-5's intellectual property [had to chuckle when I typed that]? Would there be an interested party at all?

Talk amongst yourselves...

Bonneville is owned by the church, however they are in it for the money as well. If the station is making the asked 34% threshold, they will not touch a thing. If the station is making less, then you will see heads rolling.

Bonneville however will also be the best thing to ever happen to Denver radio. They are a caring company, they respect their programmers and give them just about every tool known to man to succeed. They will largely become involved in the community and start a lot of charities. So look for Bonneville to win the hearts and minds of people everywhere in Denver.

Chances are, KQKS will stay Rhythmic with some pop titles thrown in just because they can. They like to see their name at the top of the ratings...it makes them grin!

Dont be surprised to see Smooth Jazz get adjusted a little bit to take on an AC-Smooth Hits Approach.

Just my two cents.

I still think CBS Radio & Entercomm will end up splitting up the cluster amongst themselves. Here's how....

CBS Radio

KKFN-AM 950
KYGO-FM 98.5 (They'll dump "Willie" in lieu of a "Free FM" talker n 92.5)

Entercomm

KEPN-AM 1600 (Simply because it's an ESPN Radio affiliate)
KJCD-FM 104.3 (To corner the AC crowd)

KQKS-FM 107.5 could go either way IMO.

Just my opinion though....

Cheers D

It hasn't been Willie for quite some time now. It's The Wolf.
Whatever. The way the ratings are going on 92.5 now, that won't last much longer either.

Cheers :D

CBS under VP Dan Mason is not flipping stations to FREE FM. Instead they are dumping FREE in several markets and switching to other formats.

If you think that the WOLF has poor ratings, you have never seen how horrific the "Guy Talk" FREE FM stations were doing.

Well that's mostly because the only people who did the talking on those stations were guys. I'd be willing to bet that if they mixed it up gender-wise, the FREE FM genre would fare MUCH better.

Regardless, a Free FM won't happen in Denver.

And as for KS, Clear Channel and CBS will not be interested in the intellectual property of KS, it will get sent to a rimshot much like KKFR did in Phoenix. And people here will justify that by saying Bonneville can make more money with Newstalk 107.5 then they can with the only CHR in Denver which pretty much tells the 18-34 demo go f yourself.

In the meantime CBS debuts 100.3 Jamz(or will that be 92.5 Jamz?)

My predictions will be 100% accurate. I just have to figure what to bet with.

I think it just might if the format were revamped to include women IMO.

I never mentioned ANYTHING about Clear Channel. I was referring to Entercomm. But nevertheless....

If they DO go the news route, it won't be to add yet another BO-RING clone of KOA
go f yourself.
This was not called for no matter who you were replying to. In fact, it was downright cheap and reminiscent of a certai other Denver Radio board which many of us would rather forget about and none of us want little if anything to do with. As such, it shall remain nameless.

Speaking of replying to someone else's post, how 'bout using the QUOTE link at the top of each post instead of posting a blanket message? This way, not only do we know whom you are addressing your message to, but it's also proper message board etiquette.

Not as a CHR.

My prediction is that you will only be half-right with 107.5 and DEAD WRONG about 100.3

But what do I know? I'm just average, ordinary John Q. Public listener/buff who just happens to have spent VIRTUALLY HIS ENTIRE LIFE in Denver (And that's over 40 years).

Time for me to post this and go get ready to watch the World Series.

Cheers :D

Aha, gotta love them little birdies -

So the KS saga that will ensue once Bonneville snags those prime Denver outposts. One of two things will happen once it all folds out.

Bonneville could keep KS just the way it is. The stations does have a lot of cash flow and also does very nicely in the ratings

or

Bonneville does a swaparoo with CBS for their Oldies flagship KXKL plus some cash terms. Bonneville likes the station, hell...they love the format.

Pat Cook, you took my post and tried to position it to misquote me as saying something I didn't.

I SAID Bonneville would be the ones saying to a 18-34 demo go F yourself if they shifted KS to somebody else, particulary to a rimshot. You know what a rimshot is? A rimshot is a station that DOES NOT COVER THE ENTIRE METRO. That INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO

92.1
101.5
103.1
102.3
101.9
107.1

I didn't tell anyone myself to go F themselves. Don't rework people's posts to further some agenda you have.

I don't think this was called for. This is just insulting someone's intelligence.

cheepshots make it fun.... anyone want some of this popcorn and watch THIS show with me ;D

It's amazing how the Listeners in Denver are so Brainwashed that they think KQKS actually sounds like a Decent Urban Station ???

1) They have become more Urban and Thugish sounding than before...

2) They play the same ol songs all day long...even during the Back in the Day Cafe :( :(

3) Every Club they advertise or Broadcast live from...sucks...and they have attracted the Ghetto-Undesirable Crowd, i would be scared i would get Robbed or something :( :(

4) And what's even more Sad is that Denver's Best station Jammin 92.5 was dummped instead of KS 107.5

5) Party 95.7 doesn't even come close to the being a Jammin 92.5. of anything..they play half the same songs 107.5 plays...then they mix in a few 90's R&B & Rap songs...... :( :(
