That might be the case if Bonneville (reportedly) emerges as a bidder and possibly an eventual winner of the Lincoln Financial Media sweepstakes. According to at least one radio trade publication, Salt Lake City-based Bonneville is most interested in LFM's Denver cluster. Country KYGO, Smooth Jazz KJCD and the AM's are pretty safe, but Bonneville is very uncomfortable operating Urban and/or CHR/Rhythmic stations.
Case in point: Bonneville recently purchased Hip-Hop KKFR (Power 92.3) in Phoenix and then sold off the "intellectual property" (i.e. station name, call letters, format, employees) to Riviera Broadcasting who moved the station to another (and lower power) frequency.
If Bonneville should grab the LFM Denver cluster, might we finally see an FM News/Talk station akin to their KSL/SLC, WTOP/Washington, and KTAR/Phoenix FM N/T flagships? Who would be the likely buyer of KS107-5's intellectual property [had to chuckle when I typed that]? Would there be an interested party at all?
Talk amongst yourselves...
