Bye Bye Scott Shannon in mid-days at True Oldies 106.7

Rodney, I may be wrong on this...but I think it's actually programmed by Gary Reynolds in Dallas. He works for Scott and is an ex-CBS PD; I think he does the day-to-day Selector work on the format. He's a good guy.

When I first heard that, I was concerned that the oldies station will again be off the airwaves, but only Scott Shannon is. Hopefully the change will mean less frequent commercial breaks that has been plaguing 106.7.

I think this is a step in the right direction. I've enjoyed the information that Mr. Shannon has presented in his breaks, he knows his stuff (or uses Google.) But I've always thought he is one of the worst radio pukers out there. Also good to hear that management is going with the philosophy that having people rather than computers running the show is a step in the right direction.
We have all read many post about syndication vs terrestrial is the way to improve local programming with live jocks.....LIVE jocks..not voice tracking. While I have no love for the Sh@tadel company I must tip my hat at this decision.

In the interest of accuracy, Dexter is correct. Gary 'F' Reynolds does the music. Occasionally you will hear Shannon ask his producer, 'See if Gary can get that song". That's the Gary he refers to. Gary has the most encyclopedic knowledge of rock music of anyone you're liely to meet. I've never seen hinm lose a Trivia game on music.

in the biz, behind shannon's back he is refered only by his intiials, the radio SS. Good ridence to him... He never let anyone else on the air but himself, he repeats bits every 8 to 12 hours and frankly he's yukker... A class A$%hole... An ego the size of NYC... Basically a really nasty person, IMHOP. :p

Where's "Mr. Leonard"? :D

Some years ago, Mr. Leonard went to KKBQ, a Cox country station in Houston, using the name John Rio. (His real name is John Carrillo.) When he left to go to another Houston station (KSRR), KKBQ sued to prevent him from using the Mr. Leonard character on KSRR. The judge ruled that he could use the character but that KKBQ's jocks could also continue using it.

In the early days of NY's Z100, Mr. Leonard was an awesome, hilariously funny, character. He was a little less funny later because doing the character caused his voice to deepen. Also of note in the early Z100 days were the (syndicated) "commercials" for Heiney Wine. In the spots, Heiney was run by the Heiney brothers, Big Red and Thor. The spots said things like, "With the cold weather here, it's time to relax by the fire with a nice warm Heiney."

After looking at the website...and listening last night about 11 PM...I think 106.7 has dropped the True Oldies Channel altogether...and will be going local 24/7.

Yeah, they changed the branding from "Atlanta's True Oldies" to "Atlanta's Greatest Hits". Wonder if they are going to steer the playlist newer (i.e., more 80s)?

I avg age of a song on True Oldies until Tuesday was 1970. I looked at the playlist Wednesday via mediabase 24/7. The avg of songs that day was 1972. So it's now slightly newer. 21 songs were played twice in that 24 hour period. In previous days, typically no more than five or six songs were played more than once. So that means the playlist has probably been tightened as well but we'll know more after a week.

This will be a good change. I liked Shannon when he first was on 106 and he still does a good
job with his top 5 countdowns, but his other "filler talk" is pure junk. He likes to dig too deep
to pull out lukewarm oldies..................when listeners get much more out of a newer Chicago hit.

Translation - The playlist will tighten yet they will bill themselves as the largest library in Atlanta. Ratings will continue to slide. Advertisers will complain that the audience, now approaching their 70's, doesn't support them. Randy and Spiff will be blamed for their older audience and Atlanta's Greatest Hits will be gone in under two years. I think we have all read this book; we know the ending.

No love for Shannon's replacement on 106.7 in middays?

Good to see Kristen Charles back on her feet after leaving South 107 a year ago. Way to make the jump from a rimshotter to a Top 10 market.

Has anyone heard the commercial or station promo stating the demo’s of the 106.7 listener? I caught part of it. If I heard it correctly, they were stating their listeners’ household income of 90K. It sounds like they are trying to “sell” their audience instead of “pushing numbers”.
