Bye Bye WINK FM - SW Florida

I agree that "More" seems like a "Jack" for females. But if a big part of the target audience is women in their 30s and 40s, how or why would the WINK branding be outdated? Just because it has been around for a while? Is that age group - unlike that of CHR/Pop - really all that image-conscious?

Oh jeez... What difference does it make? Personally I like the change. And, as WINK-FM has been on a ratings slide for years, they needed to do something drastic.

Apparently a big bucks study was commissioned.

I agree that the new "More" format is basically a female leaning version of the "Bob/Jack" format. Not only that but it is a younger version also. "More" plays music from the 80's to today where our local "Bob" station tends to program music from the late 60's to today.

Should be interesting to see how "More" works out. I also agree that WINK FM had been falling for many years. They had adjusted the format several times over the years to no avail. There was a time that WINK FM was one of the top rated stations in Ft Myers/Naples.

When I got here in the late 80's they were indeed one of the big dogs. It's been a gradual erosion since then.

Mornings, middays and afternoons are staffed.

Kevin ? does mornings. Some female who comes in for a couple of hours does middays and Michael Hayes (PD) does afternoons. The breaks are quick and generic, for the most pat.

Tampa Bay's "Q105" thinks that's a bunch of BS.

Watch for more WINK news in a few weeks...

As in Monday.

bye bye wink fm

testing to see if this is working; back on topic, WINK FM has been a heritage station for years and I often listened to it in St. Petersburg in the 1980's and early 90's.

Monday, WINK-AM becomes WJUA "Juan FM"... a Spanish variety hits station. It will simulcast on WNPL 1460 in Naples.

This ends WINK as an AM call sign for the immediate future. Believe WINK-AM signed on in 1945. And ends all-news on 1200.

God, what a waste of a signal that's going to be. Then again, a sign of the times.... and the ARN format wasn't exactly a good use of it either.

You can hear 1200 up into Orlando, and in many places West of Orlando on 75 it's easily listenable up until about Ocala/Gainesville. Given it's high frequency, it's only rival in coverage is 540 WFLA in Orlando, from my observations anyway.

The website for WNPL Noticias 1460 expired on 08/22/2013.

The new website for 1200/1460: Juan1200.com.

I've heard 1200 in VA in the late afternoon. If you look at 1200's coverage map, you'll see it is pointed NNW which explains why it is easy to carry the signal to Ocala.

Oh well...

I'm hearing a lot of banda music.
