It's worse than Rock Center. Williams was already on the payroll in that case. In this case, they've paid a LOT of money for a host that apparently lacks any real ability to draw viewers.
it does highlight the foolishness of paying big bucks to hire somebody who has had nothing more than brief notoriety.
Same issue though. NBC didn't shell out millions for a host for Dateline. For Kelly to justify her salary, she'll need to draw big on Sundays and in the 9AM weekday slot. Other big earners at NBC didn't come in at large salaries, they got raises after they proved they could draw. It certainly isn't going to bankrupt NBC News and is nothing more than a rounding error on Comcast's earnings report, but it does highlight the foolishness of paying big bucks to hire somebody who has had nothing more than brief notoriety.
IMO, bringing her Fox News viewers with her to her new shows, if she can do that, won't be enough for ratings success. And I think there's doubt that she will retain Fox News viewers if she doesn't give them the political red meat they're used to.

Other Advertisers are pulling out of the Megyn Kelly Show on NBC due to the Alex Jones interview.

If the lefties had just kept quiet, and let her speak, who would have cared the next day?
I'm a liberal, and despise people like Jones, but I don't get the furor. He's in the news frequently, and he's controversial, so he IS news, and it's valid to cover him. Does it give him publicity and a sounding-board? Sure it does, but that's OK in a free society. I'd analogize it to the outrage that occurs at UC Berkeley among left-leaning students when right-wing pundits like Ann Coulter are scheduled to speak on campus. They like to characterize her views as "hate speech." I suspect that Coulter just loves the news coverage and publicity that she gets when she's DENIED the speaking engagement due to the outrage. If the lefties had just kept quiet, and let her speak, who would have cared the next day?
I don't think that was the intent. My sense is she felt stifled at Fox, that she wasn't being utilized to her full potential, and was looking for a place where she could use all of her knowledge and experience. Fox is a place where the message is more important than the messenger. She felt she wasn't that kind of journalist. Is she worth all the money? That's not for me to say. She's worth what companies are willing to pay.
But my question to you is can someone on TV reinvent themselves? Is she more than a one-trick pony? Obviously someone at NBC News thinks she is. So they've given her multiple platforms to demonstrate what she can do. If she can't do it, the contract won't be renewed. It's a chance you take with anyone.
I say NBC should release the uncensored version of the Alex Jones interview for NBC app and NBC owned stations.
See I say the Alex Jones interview is significant because he's been called the New Rush Limbaugh and the new Roger Ailes given the spotlight he's been getting in the past year plus Infowars supposedly more powerful than Fox News because of Joneses staff being connected to Trump and Putin.
"he would release an unedited version of the interview"
I smell a lawsuit. Or at least a cease & desist..
Which he will ignore, as he considers the mainstream media and the legal system parts of "the enemy." It will get out, one way or another, and if he's prosecuted, his becoming a martyr for his own cause will only further elevate him in the eyes of his followers.
