Can WTQR bounce back?

Atticus is right about the people. There are some good ones at CC and they shouldn't get murdered for knucklehead management choices. But once a heritage station is tied or behind a newcomer, rates collapse, morale takes a hit and second-guessing runs rampant. WTQR will probably rebound, but their rates are toast. Nobody knows that better than Clear Channel. They've made it a mission to bring down heritage stations around the country. Problem is those heritage stations are usually the market rate leaders and the market rates usually tumble soon afterward. It's now being done to them in Greensboro (times two if you include WMAG), and the market will suffer for it.
 
rates ? who cares, lets get back to talking about 12+ numbers and who's won the battle.
no one on this board cares about the actual issues...we want gossip, speculation and character assasination...just ask abc girl..

and of course we feel sorry for the CC folks who have had to stand by

while great stations have been destroyed by idiots.

Let's take up a collection for them...how about it?

Course no one is forcing anybody to stay anywhere.......don't like where you are.....do something about it.
 
I'll tell you this...ask any of the guys that work in my shop...they cut the wolf on all day back there and if you go and try to change it they start cussin. I've been listening myself for a few months now that everybody I used to know isn't on the radio at WTQR any more, and whatever these ratings things are ya'll keep talking about...they don't matter...the station just sounds better.
 
well....they need to bring back brian hatfield.....he was great!

man the way he would give the wrong call letters all the time, cuz he forgot which station he was voice tracking....that was so cool.
 
As someone living in the Charlotte area here is my two cents.

It's not over, WTQR can recover if they work smart. WSOC-FM had to Country market to itself for years. 96.9 WLVK-WTDR-WKKT tried to catch them for years. They overtook WSOC-FM a couple of times as both stations went through various owners. Now WSOC-FM is ahead again but WKKT isn't doing badly either.

Maybe there is room for two?

I know some good people at CC, at least I think I do. Quite a few were let go so you never know! I almost went to work for CC until they tried to get me to sign a non compete. No thank you! My question... do you really think that Entercom is that much better than Clear Channel? I have doubts.

That would explain why they pronounce it "Walllf", they could just use the same liner and cut off the "fff."
Voila! One session, two liners for two stations! Just the way it should be done... :D

Only if the guy (or girl...don't want to offend anyone) is good AND QUICK at editing. We can't spend a lot of time on this.

You shouldn't even mention anyone's ability to do anything but take up space man. Anything beyond that is uncivilized. ;)
Besides, editing skills are overrated. When are the ad agency buyers [the only ones who matter] going to even hear the ad anyway? They're all outside the listening area and streaming is too steep... ;
 
Ok - I have been a lurker for a loooooong time but this thread has brought me out of lurkdom.

Before you all start slamming me for where I work, I will tell you that I do not work for CC or Ent. or even in this market but I am in radio(just grew up in the area and moved on and out) but I do have dear friends at BOTH clusters and they don't talk nearly as much crap about the competition as you all speculate they do and do on here. There are good people in BOTH buildings and character assasinations are not necessary.

The folks I know, from both camps, will tell you in a heartbeat that it is a horse race and anyone can win. The Ent folks will tell you that they have to stay fresh and keep doing big things because they know that they haven't taken TQR down and taken it all away - they know they are heritage and they don't believe for one second that they are actually going to boot them completely out of the market and the folks at CC will tell you that they have been put in check and need to do sometheing because they have been hurt by the Wolf and there are even some who will say they envy what the Wolf is doing in the community.

Ok. Now that I have that out of the way....I thought you all might want to chew on this:

I believe someone else said it first but it seems to be a trend, not a fluke. Arbitron is faulty and has handed out some b.s. at times but they are still used so buyers buy and sellers sell and programmers program. Anywho, I would say there is something to be said for them AND why is there never any discussion of what WKZL or WSMW are doing....while everyone is busy worrying about TQR and the Wolf, those two stations are flying under the radar and probably loving every minute of it.
 
WOLF/Entercom needs to get rid of that lame night show and bring Opie back. That show doesn't work in country music and IMHO Opie did a great job with the night show.
 
Anger ? Now that is laughable. Now I am am angry because you two keep telling me I am angry when in fact I have no vested interest in either company. I wasn't angry, just giving my opinion which won't happen again. Oh yeah, another thing that makes me angry is when people think their opinion is the only one. It just amazes me that people spend so much time on a message board trying to reveal identities...I stumbled over this message board a while back...who cares who abcgirl is? My name is Tom McCalister and I live in King. My best friend and I own a shop that does HVAC work, and we listen to a lot of radio. I used to be in radio back in the day...what else do you need to know? I know that as a former radio guy, listening to this whole battle is fun. I don't know much about the ratings thing these days, but I do know what I like to hear.

quit being so dang suspicious...i really wish I could work for The Wolf or WTQR...those radio days were fun...but, then again, I couldn't compete with the talent I hear on those stations...
 
Maybe I am ABCGirls' husband...then again I may be married to Aunt Eloise. Simmer on that one, ms. eye...
