i have to agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the new night show is downright awful------------ :'( i coundnt remember any names but opie was the old guy and alan the new guy. the few times that i listened It was terrible he treads on topics that arent good at night. when ive tuned in hes been talkeing about sexual references????? how does that fit for da night show???????????????????????????????//

I really don't think that WTQR will roll over and die, it's actually a good wake up call for any station to blow the dust off the ole playbook of success when another station comes "howling" at the door! I don't think the heritage factor of the station will be forgotten, at least by the real radio people in the building. Let the people that know radio do their job...and let go of the dead weight upper/middle/lower level management VP of radio market research car wash and appliance store director of programming and weight loss management of corporate whatever.

Heritage is not the issue..........delivering what the audience expects when they tune in is the issue. TQR at this point has nothing to offer that makes a lasting impression on the listener.

The station played the right music (well researched), had personalities that understood and fit the market, and offerd services like no other station. At one time, no station in America came anywhere close the their cume for NASCAR races! The best country artists and race stars beat down the door to get on the air. While there is no one left on the staff that was a part of that heritage, I do believe Angie Ward and Tim Satterfield have an understanding of what it meant.

Since CC moved the TQR studios from Winston-Salem to Greensboro (although I have a hard time calling that area Greensboro) they have lost a great deal of their visibility and sense of community that helped build the heritage. That said, all you Wolf fans who are rejoycing and celebrating - you better not sleep! WTQR can and will come back! Let your guard down and it will be sooner than later!

So CC has finally started it in the Triad. They've been cross promoting the Charlotte cluster for some time now. I don't understand how a promo for WRFX (classic rocker) running on WKKT (country) does either station any good.
Well X, I suppose we could argue over heritage and it's importance to this situation, but let's look at another aspect of this...
As you look around the country at other "country" battles, involving Clear Channel....in how many markets are they winning?
In many markets CC owns two country stations and has them positioned approriately.....in a few markets they own one and have no direct competition......then in a few they have a head to head battle....
Are they winning in any of those head to head battles?
I think you'll find that the geniuses at CC haven't exactly got it figured out.
Most of their focus these days is the internet....their PD's get bonus dollars based on web hits....not ratings.
Do they really have the sheer will....determination and smarts to bring TQR back?
The fact that they were asleep at the switch is an indication of their battle readiness.....
Of course this whole discussion assumes the walf will continue on it's path...who knows when Entercom will pull the plug on their resources......Who knows, maybe the annoying walf howl will wear folks out at some point.

When discussing "Heritage" and WTQR, keep in mind that Angie Ward DID win the large market "Personality of the Year" at the CMT Awards a few years back, and she IS still there. Also, IF and WHEN they do bring in a new morning show, they will be new guys with a fresh new attitude. That will filter to the other on-air folks. They'll rise to the challenge and perk up to look good in front of the new guys. Unless they're totally lame in which case they'll be fired or leave. I'm telling you it ain't over.
