Cancer Radio, a hard listen, on WPRO.

Yea JV, Charles thinks it's hysterical.

Sure you're not JJ, as in Jesse Jackson? :D

David Cicilline allowing 7 sex Gay sex clubs to run in Providence is awful.
Aids is spread in those clubs according to I- Team Jim Traconti.
Dan Yorke has the facts to support what I just said.
Being sensitive and radio don't mix.

Regarding the radiothon I think everyone's opinion has been a valid one to one extent or the other. For fidgety listeners who can't go 30 seconds without a song or a talk show topic it's a tune-out. Others will sit through it. Bottom line is it looks good for the stations & everyone involved is doing a good job that sounds prepped & well researched. None of it comes across as sounding obligatory. As far as the posts about the mayor, etc I really wish some people here would just call a damn talk show instead of bringing talk show issues here.

Think of it as "overhead."

Rude spitballs are the price of admission here, the "cost" of free speech.
There'd be less if anonymity wasn't an option.
But there'd be less CONVERSATION too, so it's a trade-off.

Like tuning up-and-down the radio dial, these boards consist of content AND static.
It's a consequence-free zone to the kibbitzers.

Some are disgruntled station employees, lashing out at The Man.
More are wanna-be's and never-were's who resent us has-beens.
They flick lit matches at Barbara Haynes or Paul Giammarco or Dave Barber, people just trying to do their jobs.
Unbelievable as it seems, SOME here even flame consultants!

Now the mayor?

Think if it as "overhead."
Just scroll.
There'll be something good here too.

Look at it this way alfieradioguy, they were there before he took office. They were there when Buddy was mayor, they were there when Joe Paolino was mayor, and Buddy the first time before that.....this isn't a new sensation in Providence. Just because the mayor happens to be gay doesn't mean he is allowing more gay bars to open and he has little to do with them opening or closing, the Board of Licenses does.

Well I'm one of the never-were's, but I certainly don't resent your generation for it. It was guys like you that helped to build PRO-FM, and it's a shame some of the "wanna-be's" and "never-were's" don't realize that. In fact, I'd like to THANK YOU for what you did for that station, and say I wish those days were still here.

You and me both, pal.

Remember the movie "Field of Dreams?"

The James Earl Jones character did a stirring monologue about baseball.

It was about how "The Game" continues...survives...endures, "through wars" and a list of other other Earth-shaking change he recited better than I can recall off-the-top-of-my-head.

WPRO has that same quality.

For 80+ years, WPRO has kept-on-keeping-on.
This station has had some proud moments.
Genuine greatness...answering-the-call.

Some days were brighter than others.
Plenty of black eyes and stubbed toes over the years too.
But WPRO always bounced back.
Like The Game, WPRO continues...survives...endures.

TRUE STORY: About a month ago, I had my car in for scheduled maintenance at Tasca. While munching a yummy meatball sandwich at Tascafe, I spotted none-other than Bob Senior, himself. 81 now I think. He said to me, "You look familiar." I introduced myself, and we chatted; and I told him "Thanks for advertising on my show 30 years ago. He smiled, "you bet."

WPRO itself -- and the CONVERSATION it has with Southeastern New England -- is bigger than any one era or owner or manager or -- as Salty would remind us in a fatherly way -- any one voice.

What's-right-is-right, and what's-wrong-is-wrong, and, long term, the sheer force of gravity favors what's-right.

If ever you're dismayed, stay tuned...

About the Gay sex clubs. I think Dan Yorke has been saying they came about 'since' David C. has been Mayor.
Cianci is where he belongs. You must remember Cianci is a convict. Many believe Cicilline is even worse.

Holland, a great read as always. Walter

let's see if i can get a great topic for disscusion back on track after this thread took a turn up Allens Ave.

I'm an avid wpro listener, especially in the morning, and i have to admit, by day 2 of the Hasbro telethion, i was spent. i appreciate the point and the need to do this, but i could not listen to the female voice asking me what i would do if took my child for a routine checkup and then found out he was loaded with............ CANCER. thats pretty much verbatum and way too in your face. i have 2 small boys and could easily be facing what far too many parents have to endure, but that programming was relentless. there has to be a better way to get that message across because i had to turn it off

I know i'm going to get slammed seeing I work for the company...but I had a hard time listening also...a great cause..but not sure that such a long broadcast could capture their listeners...i'm a listener, but if I wanna hear interviews with people about cancer, I'd rather tune into WBZ or something...FM CHR is about music...although that is just my opinion..i'm sure they raised a large amount of money, wich all in all is a great cause..but i tuned out after the first 3 minutes

Hey KRP, A brave person. Me too! I listened to WBZ and , for the first time in a 5 months, WHJJ. They still suck. Lucky for PRO.
