Candy+Potter gone from 94.1 KMPS Mornings

AQH, stations are all about mornings. Have heard on this board many times about show that are to "old" to make it. Hey, maybe he brings not only his wife, but his talented son in too. Takes too long to establish new show, and I doubt KMPS will go that route at again.(Candy and Poter) I've also heard rumors about 2 other familiar names. One things for sure, sooner or later the weather is going to change!

Again, respectfully, have to express a lot of doubt to that.

Ichabod can bring Justin Bieber to the morning show, it's still the old KMPS.

Ichabod would be a smart move, but he would have to play in a PPM Country music world. Country fans like to hear music and personality. Ichabod got away with playing 4-5 songs an hour, but when PPM came along that didn't fly. Fitz adjusted and went from or five songs to eight or nine an hour. Still plenty of time for personality and Ichabod has appeal. As I listen around the country I realize morning radio is less about age, more about adapting to your audience. In his mid-50's Kidd Kraddick is dominant in CHR in Dallas, Matty in his mid 50's is dominant in CHR in Boston, Scott Shannon at 60 still has a strong audience base in NY. Ichabod could make a difference for KMPS, but he'd need to adapt his show to fit the audience and new measurement.

As suggested on this thread another option may be to take another well known show like Jackie and Bender, Kent and Alan, or even Fitz and try and bring them over the CBS. Each of these shows has enough familiarity in the market to build on. Clear Channel took Rivers from CBS, maybe CBS can return the favor with Jackie and Bender.

The Wolf's morning show hasn't played eight or nine songs in an hour for a long time, it averages five per hour. Add on top of that how Country songs are shorter and it's quite a self-indulgent gabfest at 100.7, about 15 minutes of music an hour.

Kent & Alan plays about eight or nine songs an hour, and those are longer songs than Country.

Still have to disagree about Ichabod. KMPS is doing a lot to try and get rid of the "old" perception and bringing back a morning show that has been around KMPS for decades won't help.

Clear Channel "taking" Bob Rivers from CBS isn't quite accurate. Besides, I don't think CBS really cares about tit for tat in that regard.

J&B might be a good choice for local talent, Kent & Alan aren't going anywhere, and The Wolf's morning show isn't that good.

When I'm in need entertainment, this board fullfills over 1% of my desire! (don't mean you AQH)
AQH, looking back at where the Old KMPS was, my research shows top 3, even at times #1 in Billing. Yes, the Wolf has taken a big bite. The big tumble came after the release of Ick. Rumor is someone not in this market, but not new to it.
Meanwhile the veterans just keep on keepin on in latest PPM's.

Even if you didn't say that last part, it's all good. Life is too short to get riled up over an internet discussion board.

I have heard a couple of names too. I'm guessing the one you're sort of referring to, maybe, is Greg Thunder?

What KMPS has done in the market is undeniable, as well as Wolf's impact. My gut says KMPS needs to freshen up even more before being able to compete on an even level with The Wolf, and it could be an expensive thing for them to do. Likely, they're hoping where they are at right now is rock bottom. I'm not sure they're there yet.

Greg Thunder is has been doing mornings at KILT in Houston for the last year or so.

If CBS knows Thunder will work better in Seattle than Houston - that may not be a bad move ~ doesn't appear his traction has been immediate there.

Although reports today seem conflicting. Is Valentine stepping up to fill in or has he in fact been named? That could already be a done deal. And do you name a morning show before you name a PD ?

Greg Thunder was terrible last time & would be terrible again. I like the idea of Scotty Burns....
Terrible as in not a good show or terrible as in bad ratings....

From the November 1st 1996. Seattle Times.

The Top 10 among all listeners 12 and older, from 6 to 9 a.m., with overall ranks in parentheses:

1. Bill Yeend and Jane Shannon of news-talk KIRO-AM (710) (1st).

2. Greg Thunder of country KMPS-FM-AM (94.1, 1300) (2nd).

If I remember correctly, he was doing well inthe ratings...contract renewal came up...wanted more than MPS wanted to pay...he left. Also was told that in research that ICKY's name came up positive all the time.

IF they brought ICK back...it would have to be without his wife...that was the sticking point before...they wanted her out...he said no. He left.

Hey,

PD and others that wanted her gone, are that. When it comes to making 5 or 6 times you investment, who cares. Greg Thunder, that's not who I heard. It's Phil Harper, another, some guy named Danger boy?

Let's throw Robin and Maynard and Pat Cashman in the ring too!! ;)

Face it, KMPS needs instant traction. Nobody's talked T-man, he'd shake up the trailer park!

wow, theres a real winner, huh? how bout teaming him up with one of them phony "bubbas" as well, like another 5 dozen country stations already do in the AM drive? "the danger boy and bubba in the morning show".

we're laughing already. not with them, at them!

How about this idea: Don't bring anybody back. Fresh blood is what that station needs, not a re-tread.
