LOL. There are two people who post under "Juice"...one of them is out of market and I am in the market, which means I can hear you "Chickypop".
As for WCOD I made a post on a different thread saying that switching to all Christmas music was a good move on WCOD's new consultant's part because many other stations get the "Christmas music spike"...why not WCOD? And they got the spike. I also said the consultant was a good one, but he has the unenviable task of un-doing the mess caused by the program director. You're right, chickypop, who cares how you get the listeners, just get them. It's too bad WCOD can't go all Christmas music all the time, huh? Christmas music saved the day but all of the underlying problems still exist. Did the imaging suddenly get better? Did the morning show suddenly obtain talent in the last 3 months to help the ratings? No. What's the only difference from today as opposed to 3 months ago? Music....specifically Christmas music. I think WCOD's consultant will eventually fix the underlying problems with the station but it's going to take time. From what I'm hearing he's getting the music back to where it needs to be. If the program director and operations manager haven't the skill or knowledge to get it done then you have no choice but to turn to a consultant, and that's sad. Looking at the recent book is it safe to say that we can expect consultants for the Rose and Cool, too?
Frank was huge but Pixy took a big hit. The morning daypart was confusing...launching Rover, then yanking Rover and putting in O & A.
As for Cool "rebounding quickly"...isn't it a little late for that? They should have responded over 6 month ago. They should have solidified their heritage position in the market before Frank even turned-on. As a programmer you should always assume that someone is going to flip-on a station and become your direct competitor and your station's attitude should reflect that. The worst kept secret in the market was the launch of Frank, yet, once again, Qeantenum was caught with their pants down. Re-active management style...not pro-active.
All in all it was a great book for Sandab. Their newly purchased stations even trended up. As for the Rocket flipping to country...that's a tough call. Country already failed on the Cape but was the format done correctly back in the day? Hard to say.
Work on your "show" Chickypop. I'm listening.
