Car Presets

I'm almost certain that 92.3 runs a stereo expander. I use the same thing with my station. When you're within range, it sounds great. When the signal starts to weaken, you will notice the expander going in and out, almost sounds mono. That and they run an increased speed of 2.0-2.5%

A friend of mine is a DJ for a country station in Springfield Illinois, and they actually run at an increased speed of 2.75%. They did listener tests between an equivalent sister station that ran at normal speed and themselves, and 87% of the people preferred my buddy's station because it sounded "more lively and clearer." The only difference between the two stations, was the speed increase on the one. Same sound settings, power levels, everything. Same thing with 97.9. They run an increased speed (I'd assume 2.0% at least.) Not many people catch it, you have to have an ear for notes and music to recognize what it is.

Yeah, love the juicy sound. Hate flat sounds (QFM, The Blitz, 103.9, etc ugh).
WEBN in Cinci got me into it but somehow they went back to the crap flat sound when they got their HD equipment.

OMW, I usually put my presets in order. eg: 92.3, 93.7, 95.5...

I believe The Blitz uses some stereo enhancement. QFM96 does not have good sound quality at all. I mean classic rock isn't exactly made to be "flashy", but they could improve it. Or update their equipment from the cassette player they may be using now?

When I load my classic rock playlist on my station, I use the same levels I do for country, and it still sounds good. I do slow the increased speed down to .5% on rock. Doesn't sound right at 2.75% like I run country at. But yes I agree. In this day and age, let's make radio sound a little better than a stereo bought from the bargain rack at Wal Mart with a single speaker.

I need to become a sound engineer.

I seem to recall Q-FM-96 sounding a lot "flashier" for awhile, years back.

One odd thing I do is put my most used stations on button 1 and 6, the next most used on 3 and 5, and the ones I don't use much on 2 and 4.
Sounds like a logical approach, though might it be more intuitive to put "tier two" at 2 and 4, i.e., one preset in from "tier one" on each side?

I tried that. 2 and 4 get "lost" in the middle. 1 and 3, and 4 and 6, are like the aisle and window seats on an airplane...no one wants to sit in the middle seats. :D

Oooh, another oldies station. Too bad that I can't get it here.

Looking at their website, I forgot about that micro oldies station in Marysville. I didn't know it was still up after 1270 went (and eventually dumped) True Oldies.

I set mine in order from lowest to highest, with my favorite FM stations on FM1 and less favorite but still listened-to on FM2. For every car radio I've had here in Ohio, 610 always has the No. 1 spot, followed by WLW and WGN with the other spots up for grabs.
