cbs cluster

GM Ed Krampf to take gig in LA........

Geez, after running this cluster into the ground, why would they trust him with LA?????

I hope this mean's Q's new PD goes right behind him.

An Uncle of mine who served in the Army during World War II said the enemy had a similar plan. They were in disarray, with no plan on how to win...so they just destroyed everything in their path. "Scorched Earth Policy", I believe is the term.

Partially correct- scorched earth refers to the destruction of everything (food, shelter, supplies, vehicles, etc) when an army is advancing or retreating, to deprive the enemy of its use. The Russians used it against the Germans (and vice-versa) in WW2, and the Iraquis tried it when they set fire to Kuwaiti oil wells.

It may be part of the overall CBS plan: by making the stations they own (and radio in general) unserviceable, no one will be able to make them succeed when CBS retreats.

Not to be confused with slash-and-burn, where old crops are destroyed to make way for new growth. No, the corporate owners are poisoning the turf so nothing will ever grow there again.

sorry They know they need to change, but not sure what yet.

There are many others that are worse off and should change first... Mix, 98 Rock, US, The Point, etc.

You people are retarded. "Into the ground" is indicitve of either a friend getting downsized or you being out of work? Which one? Speaking as someone who signs his name, is proud of CBS, and at a station that is holding our own against your "greats" - I'll openly say, in the words of Barrack Obama, this thread is "some Special Olympics" thing.

Most of you haven't been allowed to run a bake sale, let alone a radio cluster, have the strangest, misguided opinions. Ed Krampf is a great asset to CBS and the decision to bring new blood (and vision) to our stations was strongly supported outside the market. It's a great thing that he won't have to be away from his family any longer, and he'll remain with our company.

CBS Radio - Tampa

In spite of all the cuts or whatever, CBS still sounds better than COX. There still is some tiny attempt not to sound like a jukebox.

What company? That's funny "musicman". The company didn't fold when Stern and Mel, went dollar wrangling! They got seriously rich at CBS and did the same at satellite, so nothing has changed. The best programmers, product, and radio mangagers are found under the CBS logo, so step AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER, and go learn about radio.

Better yet, what company do you work for? Is that a cricket I hear?

that is probably a cricket you hear. having been in the hallways of your building recently, that is about the only sound you hear - except for all the stations on automation.

i work for a company that appreciates and respects my talents. I have been a manager at several media outlets - tv and newspaper mostly, couldn't make enough money in radio, so i applaud you for being able to provide for your family through cbs radio and understand your loyalty to your company. But as you stated, the previous GM didn't even live here so how could he possibly have had any insight to what this community is all about when he slashed those people? Bringing in new blood? he said in a media report it was about ratings. Marvelous marvin's ratings were much better than the 'new blood' the new, old GM brought in.

blame it on the economy.

good luck and continued success to you wildout.

Okay maybe this is ignored because it's such a foreign idea but MY NAME IS ORLANDO! No need for the WiLDOut. Feels a little more normal to respond to my name instead of feeling as if i'm hiding.

Kudos on your success "MusicMan", I hope you have continued success. I have been treated well by this company and will defend against web idiocy. The fact of the matter is the economy is strongly to blame for where we are, but not just the medium. Churches, Homes, Shopping Malls and Schools have all joined radio in living well byond it's means. When radio properties were separate and competitive, they thrived off of excess. After dereg., the combos still lived in the "fabulosity" (stolen from Kimora Lee Simmons), of BIG radio. Huge staffs, Unneeded duplicity, yet numbers spoke to potential.

Although this approach strongly magnified the work of great programmers, like those of CBS, it hindered revenue. No one could see it - yet! As the economy has faltered, things have thinned out, to a natural number, but housed in digs to fit double. Walk thru Media General, CC, and others and you'll see that crickets are following you. Its hit everyone.

It's like people who have decided to attempt to make it over the bridge, with the gas light on, instead of "useless" spending. As someone who recently ran out of gas, for the 1st time in 37 years, I don't agree with that approach. Yet it's hard to tell someone what to do with their billions.

As far as Q105. Everyone was saddened about the changes, however the station sounds good! Mason's show is now focused on MORE Mason, which isn't a bad look. He's pretty popular, ya know?

I was very loyal to the anonymous substance abuse agency in St.Pete too. Now they let me volunteer if I want and I still facillitate a support group for free. They are great people too who got whacked by the loss of grant money. Maybe I can go back if the Stim works.
