CBS Evening News Anchor

And now, here's Daily Kos' take on the situation.

Here's something from the Daily Kos piece I haven't seen elsewhere:

"Things have gotten so bad at CBS that the network was mocked during its own broadcast of the Golden Globes on Sunday. During her monologue, host Nikki
Glaser
described
the network as “America’s newest place to see B.S. news.”

Meanwhile, Weiss is
reportedly enraged
at the mockery and scrutiny of her stewardship of CBS News. Her wife, Nellie Bowles, complained about internal CBS criticism of Weiss in a piece for the
right-wing Free Press, which Weiss still oversees."

I think that Mrs. Weiss will turn out to be a better propagandist for right-wing causes than an actual journalist or being an editor for actual journalists.

What did they expect would happen? That people would praise their new backwards approach and the crown jewel of network news would not become a laughing stock.

In the interest of equal time, I once heard ABC News described as "Already Been Chewed."

Of course, there was Gilbert Gottfried's unpacking of the acronym NBC. But all you could hear him say was "Nothing But". The rest was 3 seconds of continuous 1 kHz tone.

I think they've been doing an alright job so far of staying neutral. It doesn't give off that irritating feeling of obvious right lean and seems conscious of left leaning viewers who watch it.

Reminds me of when Fox threatened to sue itself, after the Simpsons (on Fox) made fun of Fox News.

I think we all agree that CBS News is changing its approach to the Evening News. What we're seeing is some of the regular viewers don't like what they're seeing, and the beneficiary appears to be the new anchor of NBC Nightly News

Presentation-wise, Tom Llamas is basically the Latino version of Ryan Seacrest. I still view NBC Nightly News as the best of the network news options, though.

News should not be "neutral". It should be objective. There is a difference.

Neutral = "Trump said injecting bleach will cure Covid. Doctors say it won't."
Objective = "Trump made the false and dangerous claim that injecting bleach will cure Covid."
100% this. We also don’t need to hear from Bob in East Bumble—k about whether he thinks those elitist scientists and doctors with their fancy book learnin’ are right or wrong.

According to this, the president never said "inject bleach."

There's no need to tell people what the president said. Just play it and let them hear him.

Not literally those words, but it's an accurate way of summing up his rambling "weave":
DJT said:
And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute. One minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning.
The "disinfectant which knocks it out in a minute" he was referring to was either bleach or isopropyl alcohol.

And his suggestion to use "very powerful ultraviolet light" was equally dangerous, because UVC burns your eyes and kills your skin cells. After just one minute of exposure, your skin will smell like decomposing flesh and your eyes will feel like they've been sandblasted.

The point is that the media gets itself in trouble when it tries to interpret what the president says. Let him dig his own hole. At some point, the public is going to realize he's crazy. They aren't there yet because the media is trying to act like responsible adults.

Everyone is where they’re going to be. A huge swath of the public knows damn well he’s mentally unfit to run a lemonade stand let alone a country.

Another swath is just never going to see it through willful blindness.

And one more swath knows damn well he’s incompetent but doesn’t care because they’re getting what they want, be it giant tax breaks for the rich or vengeance on those scary “others” who supposedly took something away from them.

The media gets in trouble because the public doesn't trust it. Some people see (correctly or incorrectly) ties to the DNC (some Hillary emails showed direct communication back then), while some media like CBS is perceived as having ties to the current administration.

If that's true, then it's clearly not working, because the most popular Democratic-aligned politicians are the ones the DNC has tried the hardest to distance itself from, such as Mamdani, AOC, and Bernie Sanders.
The media is going to continue to distance itself from those kinds of candidates and usually aligns itself with more corporate friendly Democrats. I am positive that trend will continue into the next election cycle.

I probably shouldn't say this because it's political, but if I say I don't want media to, then I can say I don't want these to be the first people that are associated with Democrats. I want a more moderate party.
