They didn't in 1973-74, until those tapes surfaced. They supported Nixon through the Saturday Night Massacre and Spiro Agnew's resignation, but it started to go downhill from there.

Trumps crimes are out in the open. Nixon weren’t.
That’s all well and good, but the party is nearly entirely in support of all of it. They aren’t going to “stand up” when they are all on board with said crimes.
There's a reason that "freedom of the press" is written into the 1st Amendment. The press (now encompassing TV news networks and "new media") was an important part of what I suppose Plante might call "bringing down King George." An informed citizenry. What is happening with CBS (I used to work for the radio division) is deeply disturbing, and I'm sure folks like Ben Franklin and Thomas Paine would agree. Remember, this whole mess started because then-candidate (and former President) Trump was very, very angry that they platformed his opponent. Now that he's back in power, he's applied pressure to them in order to kill a story that was unfavorable to his administration, and has sued or otherwise pressured other critical outlets.
What he's attempting to do to the press is akin to what he's done to the Executive Branch of government. In his first term he had "the best people" around him that would push back, question his decisions, and in some cases resign and criticize him afterwards. His new administration is filled with fawning sycophants who dare not question him, and dutifully defend even his most absurd missives. He's essentially forced CBS - one of the most storied news operations in recent history - to install a compliant head, managed to get them to cancel a comedian who mocked him, got ABC to suspend another host who made fun of him, and threatened NBC because their late night host is less than kind to him. I'm sure that given his druthers, he would have the New York Times, the Washington Post, and other legacy outlets shut down. He is literally hacking away at one of the foundational freedoms of this country...freedom of the press, and since nobody in his administration and precious few of his party in Congress will try to stop him, it is imperative that we continue to have (and keep defending) a free press.
That is, unless of course you're still loyal to the Crown...

Some of A's posts make me think maybe he has some kind of personal relationship with someone who either did or does work for CBS. Hmmm....
A lot of people did, but since CBS sold to Entercom/Audacy, there's not a lot of radio people in the mix over at the Tiffany Network. But for some of us who did, it is troubling to watch the company of Murrow, Cronkite, and 60 Minutes hire an anchor who gushes about the current sycophant in place at the State Department.

Netflix subscribers don't need an evening news show
After watching Tom Llamas lob the most groan-worthy softball questions at Trump during his NBC Nightly News sit-down interview tonight, then fail to challenge any of his ridiculous answers, I retract what I said. Apparently Comcast/NBC News is on the same Trump capitulation bandwagon as all the other Big Media corporations now.
As I've said before, nobody wins an argument with him. You may think you're going to educate him, or convince him to change his views. He doesn't work that way. When people do that, he digs in deeper and hits back harder. Then he shuts down. We all saw that in his first term. As people in his first cabinet have said, he's a moron. He's an idiot. You're wasting your time if you think you or anyone can change him. He is the absolute wrong type of person to have in this role.
So you go in and let him say the stupid things that everybody has already heard a million times. In that way, he digs his own hole. That's what Murrow did to McCarthy. NBC got what it wanted out of it, which was a few promotable quotes it could put out there and have people attack or fact-check afterwards when he's not looking. That's how you handle him. Because if you do it to his face, he'll tear you apart. Then continue the attack afterwards on social media. Then he'll go after your company, and make it tough for them to operate,
That's why David Muir is #1.
