Nothing happened to O Rock, other than some moves with talent.

Oh well, more false rumours and bad information ;D

Which is why I say once again, I will believe it when I hear it. O-Rock has been "about to flip" for around 2 years now. If they can maintain poor to average ratings at best for this long, why would they change that anytime soon?

When they start to drag down the cluster by failing to hit any sales quotas for over a year, that's why. They can have poor ratings and survive, but if corporate starts looking at the bottom line and takes notice, it could be the flip rumored for over two years and running.

WELL over a year now, closer to two. O-Rock has been losing money for a long time now. When I hear 105.9 playing latino or oldies or the infamous never to been seen talk format, then I will buy more into the rumors. Until then, it's just talk.

I find it more than a little curious that "earlyriser" started this thread looking for "news" or "dirt" about the possible O-Rock flip, yet now claims to have inside information that it's gonna happen on the 4th. Certainly with WOCL's struggles with ratings, revenue, and identity it's ripe for a format change...but look how miniscule/non-existent advertising money FROM CBS has been to promote O-Rock. I haven't seen any billboards or commercials since Drew and Mel were first on in the mornings 2 years ago.

I doubt that anyone, including Drew and Savannah, is making THAT much money...so the current format isn't costing CBS too much money. A new format, as someone already pointed out, would require advertising dollars to support it. We might not see a change in formats for a few more months if at all. I know that personally, I'd like to see a little more variety in the music being played...less current "hits" from Hinder and such and more deep cuts from the 90s. Just my opinion.

Doesn't Drewand Savannah do well for O-Rock? If they flipped to Classic Hits would they keep those jocks and the other dayparts around?

Well, i dont know how well they do...i havent seen the most current numbers...however...imho, Drew would be even BETTER on a "classic hits" format...now that most "classic hits" stations reach into the 80s...and if you remember his night show...he IS a child of the 80s...

now, if youd like to get wild with speculation...say ORock switches to CH (Classic Hits, from here on out)...that means that Infinity has every decade covered in their building...CH and Mix kind-of go after a similar audience...each one leaning older or younger according to the format...would it be a terrible idea to move Scott and Erica to the CH station? Then put Drew up on Mix, music/format i think he could REALLY do well in? Moving Scott and Erica brings a boatload of free buzz to the new CH station?!

Am i insane?

I worked there from the COOL days into the POWER days. 1059 started loosing money as soon as it dropped Oldies. What a shame. It was the clusters cash cow when it was COOL. They used to print money at that station. The national PD for AMFM claimed to have invented the Jammin Oldies format. He went around the country changing profitable Oldies stations to loosing Jammin Oldies stations. His excuse "People who listen to Oldies are dying" That may be, but they have money to spend.

You could write a book on "How to destroy a profitable radio station" about that format change. If they were smart they would bring back COOL105.9 and as many of the old COOL105.9 air staff as they could finf.

Hey now...anyone heard what they're playing on O-Rock today since 3? There's definitely a change afoot. I'll bet dollars to doughnuts we won't hear Drew and Savannah tomorrow morning (or ever again on O-Rock).

Yeah... I've heard a host of songs this evening that I WISH they would have played months ago. Bravery's 'Honest Mistake', Interpol...freaking Interpol! One of the jocks said that his manager poked his head in the studio and said "Play whatever the hell you want." I guess we'll see what happens.

I tried to see what exactly you all were referring to (I'm not in the area), so I checked out yes.com, and noticed that they played "Thunder Kiss 65" twice in the span of about an hour and a half between 6 and 7pm-ish....Weird.

But I don't know what to say....Usually when a *real* format change is afoot, jocks don't get this kind of 'freedom' and are removed from the premises before they can do any 'damage' (I've been there)...So before you think that something might happen, this sounds more like a prelude to a tweaking of what's already on there. I think the WRQX/DC morning guy did this a few years ago when he pretended to be 'on strike' one day and demanded his PD play 'anything he want', at which point the station evolved from Hot AC to more of a "Jack" presentation, and nothing else.

The main "???" I'm having though is what I have read on radioinsight about the recently registered URLs "Sunny1059.com", "cloudy1059.com", as well as other associated domains.....Trying to figure out where to piece that in.

Hey Now.

Word is all staff meeting will occur in the morning with the station flipping a couple of hours later. Jocks were allowed to play the kind of music that would have saved the station today.
