cbs flip of

No one who has listened to, or worked for, the station since the Alan Smith days could claim surprise.
RIP, and good luck to some... good riddance to others.

I've been missing Power 105.9 anyway... is it too late to get Joe Nasty and Kathy Aparo back?

Orock was a good station but the ratings were saying different. so, there ratings were low and cbs decided to flip the station. now power was great but i don't think it will be back. i think we'll see cool ro some classic hits. I highly doubt jack will be here. I'm keeping my ears on 1059 we got ourselves a good one here. now looks weus may have some compitition? maybe or maybe not, i think people will start listening ot 1059. who knows. i'll keep tuned to here and cflradio.net.

The last time I heard O-Rock was last summer; it sounded good, but I wondered how much longer the WJRR vs. O-Rock battle would last. It actually went much longer than I expected.

I hate it for Drew and the rest of the people from WOCL who lost their jobs. Radio is not a kind business.

yes. i feel bad for mel and drew and all the others that lost there jobs. i wish all of them the best of luck. i actually talk to mel on myspace. and i've talked to bob from cfl radio. he said he's gonna do his best to keep cflradio up to date. i told the bored here and buzzing like crazy. this topic has exploded.

Even though I do not see this as a likely situation, it would be interesting to see WOCL switch to a more mainstream rock format with classic rock in the mix. Orlando has not had a station like that since the fall of 1993. I think that it would do quite well, because I am sick of listening to Metallica 24/7 on WJRR and hearing some uninformed 17-yearold dj talk about them like they are the greatest band of all time. But, let's face it, O-Rock pretty much had been on a down-hill slide ever since Howard Stern went away, and it was NEVER really a force to be reckoned with in the first place.....

I hope that it does not go "Classic Hits", because that is a total snoozefest.....

I mean, let's look at this situation. O-rock debuted in the fall of 2000, way after the modern/alternative boom had run it's course. By this time, many alternative rockers that had been huge in the 90's had now switched over to active rock (like WJRR at the time), or had flipped to top 40 to get ratings with the HUGE TRL genre of the time. I think that one of the only stations in America that has had a successfull run as a modern rocker is KROQ in LA.

If O-Rock wouldv'e come on in the fall of 1995......it would have been a totally different situation....

hmmmm a mix of clasic hits and modern rock? that would be cool but doubt it. i think wocl is on the oldies track. there playing the history of rock and roll. but after it ends we;ll have to see what happens.

This "History of Rock and Roll" special was originally aired in 1969 on KHJ I believe.... The they made additional installments to it as the yers progressed. I think it stops at 1977.

So I doubt anything modern is in the cards.

oh.. Hey Now.

Now I'm hearing AC, and CBS's Oldies PD Keith Abrams was let go today.

i hate to just straight-up laugh at someone...but im pretty much straight up laughing at this post...

i hear AC also...4 notches down the hallway at Mix 105.1...which is in the same building?

gotta be careful with mixing those signals up!

so i just heard 3 days grace animal between breaks for the history of rock and roll. interesting but i still think there going for oldies? wierd. is that another hint?

I'm guessing any weirdness is a combination of general confusion, old spots/ids in the system, and clueless part timers running the board.

I doubt any hints are being dropped.

Actually I think it ends around late 80 or 81 because it includes an interview with Rupert Holmes about how he came about "Escape-The Pina Colada Song". That's one of the really neat things about this special (which, btw, I believe is about 52 hours long, so calculate). As you near the end, they start playing alot of 'lost' oldies from the 70s.

so maybe by sunday something may happen? or probably monday morning. it's interesting to see.

I heard a 2020 Eyeglass Superstore Commercial earlier...(which was Mike Harvey, coincidentally), and the spot mentions ORock 1059...so i agree with you Hank...no hints...classic hits all the way!!!...
