CBS FM Sports Lineup Projections/Predictions

It is quite likely, AntDog.

This would also mean, by the way, that CC is unlikely to mount even a "flanker" sports station in Cleveland, either by altering WMMS at all, or throwing FSR on the 99.1 translator, whenever it comes up. For those who may not remember, FSR is owned by CC's Premiere Radio.

CC doesn't need to do all sports...WMMS with the man cave format pretty much fills the bill in that regard (especially if they can snag Jim Rome to bridge from Rover to Cox).

vjm, heh...knew you'd say that.

I still don't see 'MMS picking up Romey. They've got their man cave, even with the Maria Music Block.

The translator move, I never saw as likely. I have always tabbed 99.1 for a low-rent WTAM simulcast to cover Cuyahoga County, though CC has started some other new HD2-fed formats recently - they actually launched a smooth jazz HD2-fed-translator just the other day.

The Saturday night shift Munch has been covering on FSR is officially listed "TBA" on FSR's schedule. I don't get the idea he was doing more than filling in.

Thats too bad. Say what you want about Munch or his style, but I enjoyed hearing his Cleveland-voice on a national stage each week. I tuned in often once I found out that he was on.

As for the rest of FSR, I dont mind Petros and Money, they seem to do a good job of what they are trying to do. Loose Cannons is horrific, IMO. Just unlikable hosts and bad radio. Their morning show with Jack Trudeau and some other guy is just sort of there, boring and non-descript. When FSR dumped Steve Czaban for Stephen A Smith, it was one of the worst moves I can remember in radio history. Czaban is now killing it for Sporting News Radio (aka Yahoo Sports) and Stephen A was gone in months and is kicking around somewhere, not sure where though.

I'm probably far more critical of "PMS" because the style of the show just rubs me the wrong way. However, they are light years more tolerable to listen to than the "Loose Cannons," an abysmal LA-centric sports show that somehow got syndicated.

I know people are often heavily critical of Munch, but honestly, I just feel he's been put in the wrong on-air positions at WKNR since day one. I actually liked him with his role on "Lanigan & Malone," and he was respectable with tOSU coverage on WTVN/Columbus, in addition to being one of the few semblances of stability on WMMS' 165 morning shows pre-Rover.

To have had him do a three-hour sports show in afternoon drive - solo - was a bad idea, made worse by abruptly yanking him for Reghi (which signaled a sense of desperation on their part).

This blurb by the Beacon-Journal's George Thomas might have some merit to it. Although I'd be VERY, VERY careful at a story about local media or sports which begins with the phrase, "Word via..." which sounds awfully similar to "Word is..." ;)

Then again, I'd presume George has a better track record than the PD's infamous former sports-media columnist clown.

So if there is any truth to this, would this put Andy Baskin against tRBS?

That's be a good guess. But still a guess. George doesn't have much but Twitter posts to back it up.

If it IS Andy, then that would be a solid selection for a two or three-person midday show. The strength of any co-host selection(s) will be important.

Should they do it just right, we could officially rename tRBS the "S.S. tRBS Titanic."

Andy Baskin has always been a pro's pro, and I have no doubt he'd do well on the Fan's midday show.

All he and his co-host have to do just talk sports and not try to out-RBS the RBS, and they'll be just fine.

Yes, Andy Baskin is the name I've been hearing since a few days ago.

He'd be paired with either a newspaper guy or radio guy.

I haven't posted the name up until now, because I've been hearing it is not finalized yet, which I'm hearing again today. But Andy's role seems likely to happen.

Hearing an ex-athlete could be in the 10-2 mix as well (not sure if in addition to the other mentioned potential co-hosts with Andy Baskin).

We should know more next week.

I'm curious if Andy might make an announcement of sorts during Channel 5's "Sports Sunday" tomorrow night. Perfect time to do so, leading into Monday, IMO. ;)

Updated Lineup (Confirmed shows in Bold)
6-10am Keily and Booms
10am-2pm Andy Baskin and Unnamed Co-Host
2-7pm Adam The Bull
7pm-12am TBA
12-6am Fox Sports Radio (12-1am Tony Bruno, 1-6am J.T. The Brick)

Adam's gonna have a co-host, remember.

Baskin has been a guest on RBS a couple of times. He's seen first hand how that pop stand is run. He's a smart enough guy to know to do the opposite.

Andy Baskin is also largely involved with High School Football coverage as he was a frequent guest on WKNR's High School Football show in the last few years. Maybe he or Mike Cairns will lead their Saturday Morning High School Football Show (if they have one).

Wouldn't be surprised if Andy's show will very much counterprogram the shenanigans on the AM dial with a decent dose of sports content.

Still don't know who the co-host is. Could be any number of different categories, from ex-athlete to newspaper guy to radio guy to someone we don't even know about yet.

I don't expect Andy to announce it on Sports Sunday, tho. It'll come out of the Fan early next week, if I'm a betting man.

It has not been confirmed or announced yet, but betting on Ken Carman taking 7-midnight would likely not lose you any money at the betting window.

Is it possible (probable?) that Andy will pull a Rizzo and do The Fan AND TV5?

There has been no word around the campfire about Baskin leaving WEWS.

So I'd say more than likely Andy's gonna do double duty.

It's hardly a rare thing to see the sports director/weeknight anchor of a TV station have a radio side gig.

Correct, from what I've heard...Andy will remain as sports director of NewsChannel 5.

One source told me that he's actually been doing sports news in the morning for the other station in the Halle Building, 98.5 WNCX, for three years.

I missed that??

He is obviously not a part of the Maxwell Show, and has been doing sports there pre-dating MWL and crew by some time. He doesn't appear on WNCX's website as far as I know...
