CBS-FM's Seven Day Weekend

RADIO TRUTH said:
This is still a small bone for the 55+ audience.

Huh? Us people over 55 like music from years when they were more than 12 years old.
Some of us even like music from when we were in our 20s, 30s, and (gasp) 40s.

And conversely, some twentysomethings like myself enjoy music from well before we were born.

Still, I guess you can't argue with ratings.

Huh? Do you mean because CBS-FM is improving their numbers by reducing pre-Beatles and increasing 70s & 80s?

I'm kinda surprised (NOT) that we haven't heard from the crusty David Eduardo, he the almighty who says that oldies are dead because no ad agency will use an oldies station. Same person who ate a huge amount of humble pie when they took jack off. (!!!!!!!!!!) Same person who says there's not enought revenue in the 54+ demo. The reponse to this post speaks volumes about these nay sayers. tested songs?? "safe playlist"??? Where are you now, whistle*ss????? BTW, eat my shorts, DE.....

LONG LIVE CBS FM!!!

You don't think CBS-FM is selling 55+, do you?
They're selling 25-54.

No, I just mean that the ratings have shown that pre-64 oldies primarily appeal to the 55+ crowd, while 70s and 80s music appeals to a slightly younger crowd.

What I'm saying is that those folks 55+ still like the oldies, and hello???? THEY SPEND MONEY>>>>>

We could beat this already dead horse to dust....

Flame on

Do you think the opinion of literally a handful of radio "fans" represents
very many of the MILLIONS of people that live in the New York Metro?

Holiday weekend listening is VERY low. CBS-FM does this kind of stunt when it will
hurt them least. The average button pusher won't even know it's a special until
BOSSA NOVA BABY comes on and they switch over to Lite or PLJ.

Kudos to CBS-FM for doing this. It does get a small number of oldies radio fans excited,
but it in NO WAY will improve their ratings.

I'm not so sure why you're so positive that people "55+ still like the oldies."
And it doesn't really matter to anyone in the business whether or not "THEY SPEND MONEY".

The advertisers that spend money are only paying for 25-54.

I'm not positive about anything. I really was just going by what I heard, and the point I was making was that while I may be a younger fan of oldies, I know I'm in the minority. Again, I do not claim to be an expert on the subject. Carry on.

They are throwing a small bone to baby boomers with a few earlier songs but, the bottom line is that this station is a 99.999999999% 1968-1980 music station. People who want a steady diet of 1955-1967 music have no choices on the New York radio dial.

C'mon, let's be fair here. I do hear pre 64 stuff on this station, and lots of 65-67. It's not wall to wall 50's anymore, and it doesn't need to be. I like how it's programmed, and this countdown really rocks! If you hate this, stream WOGL's countdown in Philly...you'll be back...FAST!

The Holiday weekend begins Thursday afternoon...

Since Monday, it's been all kinds of music from the 50's to the 80's (a to z)..no real risk here, some people want changes and welcome the NEW variety (at least for one week) I really hope other classic hits stations take note and try new and wonderful things. There's really nothing wrong with it at all. Yes, more Kudos to CBS-FM

No, they're selling the *idea* of 25-54 to cover up for their still 55+ demo. Kind of like the programming equivalent of hair dye and a bad toupee.

Or, they're 25-54 in the same sense that Archie + Edith Bunker were 25-54 in 1971.

WOW, the "Game of Love" played early today.. This is the 2002 Game of Love with Santana f/ Michelle Branch. Who would ever thought of mixing 2002 music within the A to Z countdown! Gotta Love it even more! :)

And yes, "Honey" (1968) was played today too. Can't forget the sad songs too, while doing A to Z, right?

That's one that I missed...but i've heard MOST of it since like it started Monday morning - AWE-SOME!! Right now, I'm hearing "Hotel California" by the Eagles....

He's knows that more and more stations are trying "untested waters" and are successful in what they're now trying to accomplish; PLEASING THE AUDIENCE and GAINING LISTENERS & eventually INCREASE RATINGS. Having a monstrous specialty like this is what people want to hear. They enjoy hearing their lost favorites and will want the majority of them re-aired in the coming weeks and months. The positive feedbacks this station is presumably receiving far outweighs the negatives.

I think he has resigned to this ongoing issue, an issue that will never die!

And are they faking the Arbitron data, too? ;)

They played it at 4:30 am ET..I have a funny feeling that they will not be finished by Sunday. They are only in the H's and they are TONS of titles in the I's, M's, S's and T's..even the W's are lengthy. We'll see!

Nice to hear two Bee Gees songs in a row..How Can You Mend a Broken Heart & How Deep is Your Love. :)
