CBS lets college basketball analyst Billy Packer go after 27 years

Think he'll end up on ESPN? I say "probably."

I'm like everybody else, I didn't see it coming.

I grew up expecting him in The Final Four/Tournament championship whether a lot of people wanted him to be there or not.

He does have longevity, I don't think he will wind up on ESPN because he, no offense, isn't in the same league as Dicky V or Bill Rafferty.

Nowadays people want characters for their sports to entertain, and he just don't fit in the ESPN category.

Besides he has had a long career. I supsect that Dick Enberg is on the way out soon too, so maybe they will do some charity basketball game to broadcast in the near future.

As for Clark Kellog, he's a good fit. He's fun, but serious enough to not make himself more important than the game.

Yes, a bit surprising. I thought Packer was older than 68 until I went and looked. But Kellogg has put in his years of service with the network, and deserves the upgrade.

Bill Rafferty? I think you mean Bill Raftery; Rafferty hosted a couple of game shows in the '80s (the syndicated Card Sharks one of them).

Imagine Billy Packer and Dick Vitale calling a game together!

That will be one game I will NOT be watching I don't care who's playing. I would like for someone to explain to me the qualifications of Dick Vitale because he suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuux.

I don't doubt Vitale's qualifications, but I wouldn't be watching a Packer + Vitale game either. I muted the one college basketball game that I watched on ESPN last year, and turned on the radio (I did the same with some CBS games as well).
