CBS News Radio "Dissolved"

WBBM Newsradio in Chicago has apparently already switched to ABC News. No word on if they're mixin for the holidays, but probably unlikely.
Yes, they did. I was expecting WBBM and the other Audacy all-news stations to go the WINS route of not having top of the hour national news. It's still possible for the rest of them to go that route. We'll find out soon enough.

WWJ Detroit just aired a report on the demise of CBS News Radio. The all-news station has assured its listeners that it will continue to deliver the news to Metro Detroit. They did not say when they will switch to another news network.

As I suspected, it's looking like very few affiliates will still be around for the last newscast on Friday night. I'm still hoping to catch it tomorrow...somehow.
A couple of stations in my area have already dropped CBS News for ABC News (WBBR New York, NY and WICC Bridgeport, CT). WBBR made the change last month. I don't know when WICC switched, but I first noticed it early Wednesday morning.

This is the final 48 hours to access this link for CBS News Radio until they shut down. Note this is courtesy of Audacy

For parts of the country where your local affiliate stop airing CBS News Radio due to a new affiliate switch this week, this tune in link up to May 22nd will be the only place to hear CBS Radio News for the last time.
Not sure if that’s correct as If you listen to CBS News Radio streaming vis Audacy or TuneIn, they have been broadcasting the audio of CBS News 24/7 tv streaming channel for a while and not original CBS News Radio content.

Here's another place where CBS World News Roundup will be around until the end of May 22nd. CBS Radio News has released an episode of World News Roundup for May 21st, 2026 even though several of their former affiliates changed networks today. I'm not sure where else to go given all the changes we are watching today. Audacy and Tunein says CBS News Radio is open but connected to the TV feed of CBS News. Then again CBS Radio Staff have to clear their offices given where we are now. I been on that feed before and they were active prior to the March announcement of the shut down.

There was a technical glitch this morning at 07:00 PDT. As was mentioned in another thread, when KCBS went to the network -- yeah, old habits die hard -- there was complete dead air. In San Francisco, the AM Drive anchor, Steve Scott, recovered nicely and moved forward after a few seconds as if they had just cut away from the World News Roundup and picked back up with the local news. Except that they had to punt with eight unplanned minutes, everyone acted like the pros they are. I haven't read reports from KNX or other West Coast affiliates, but have no reason to believe it was an isolated incident at only KCBS.

Assuming it happened at all the Pacific stations that take the WNR, and given the attention there's been to the shuttering of CBS news radio, TPTB might have decided to post the "lost" newscast as a streamable/downloadable for listeners who want to archive it for posterity.

What on earth happened to the final CBS World News Roundup at 8am this morning? (Eastern time). I back-timed into it perfectly only to have dead air coming down the line... We FTP most of their newscasts but still air them live from the satellite feed during the morning show.

I was really hoping for a proper sendoff for a news show that's been around for 88 years. Shameful. Unless there was a technical glitch on our end, but considering I aired the 6am, 6:31am, 7am, & 7:31am newscasts live, too, I doubt the issue was on our end...

It was likely on their end. At 8:00 am, there were 13 seconds of dead air on WWJ. Then the station aired some ads before the local anchors began delivering the news at 8:02 am.

Here is an ad for CBS Radio on its sign-on in 1927. However in 2026 due to their shut down their former OTA affiliates changed networks prior to May 22nd 2026. In the end the only places to find CBS News Radio as of today is through various Audio/Podcast apps, SiriusXM POTUS is one of their final affiliate. Audacy, Tunein, has a feed but got redirected to the TV Audio of CBS News. Iheart has access of World News Roundup. Not sure where you can go because of where we are now.

Thanks guys, glad I didn't accidentally pot up the wrong channel - thought I might've done that for a minute. But no, that's how 88 years came to a close: dead air.

Looks like CBS has confirmed via email that there was indeed an issue on their end with the World News Roundup at 8 this morning...
