CBS SPORTS in TAMPA is BOMBING!!!

Do you call yourself IckPodcastGuy because podcasts gross you out?
No, although most podcasts do. Too much grab-assing, not enough substance.

"Ick" has been my handle for a while, came from the old video game arcade days... when you set a high score, you were to put your 3 initials. Too many people would put "ass" and "sex", I thought ICK was kinda funny. It's stuck ever since.

I do a podcast for fun, every monday, but I don't harbor any dreams of making money. I do it because I spent years and years wanting to get into radio, going to school, even doing pirate radio.... until I found out how many other people want to get into it, and how very very hard it is to make any money doing it. So I do podcasts for fun, and work a real job for the money.

JP is doing the pre-pregame show and post-postgame shows on 620. It seems to be part-time with the occasional fill-in. As far as 98.7 is concerned, I won't speak for JP, but in my experience, those of us who have been around a while are always going to listen when someone wants to talk.

I can't speak for anyone else here. I'm just not entertained by the station. Nothing against the people on the channel they just don't interest me. 6-noon I'm locked on 620 through Iheartradio. Noon until I go home I've been listening to and enjoying SXM MLB radio network. I like USF so I'll definitely listen to the pre/post game stuff with them on there but that's about it.

Latest ratings puts them at 0.6
I don't care if you're looking at a specific demographic or not. If your "total" overall number is that low, I would find it very surprising if you're doing well in any demo. I mean... the station is tied with WBVM, Spirit 90.5 for God's sake. ;D ....with the Joy-FM hot on their heels.

Thank you. I wasn't going to say anything about this, but you're absolutely correct. If you're pulling .5's and .6's in 6+, then realistically you're not going to be looking hot in any demo... period. There are some cases where you can have a low overall rating, and be owning a specific demo, but that's not what's happening here. Tampa Bay just isn't into sports as much as other areas. I know that's hard for hardcore sports fans to believe, but a lot of us really can't care any less about professional sports...

Of course, everyone on here acts like ratings matter. They don't. You can have great ratings, and terrible sales. I've worked at lots of stations that either didn't rate, or rated low, and we were still selling out asses off. Now, I don't know anyone doing sales over at CBS... but it really wouldn't surprise me if it's a b*tch selling that station.

Which would not explain why WDAE is one of the highest rated sports stations in the country. Their 25-54 men are very strong.

I don't dispute that 98.7's programming could be better. But very few of the CBS FM startups came into markets with such an entrenched competitor, and a huge signal disadvantage to boot.

I'm actually thinking they were going on the theory that you can sell sports without ratings (which you can).
