CBS Sports Radio "Will Be In NYC"

Or, perhaps SBS will throw in the towel and stop trying to improve WPAT FM's poor ratings. Maybe they could sell it for a decent price to Cumulus.

Cumulus is out of money for purchases. They're talking about a swap with CBS in Atlanta.

It better not be 94.7 we have enough Sports talk in NYC. ESPN FM is failing...

Omigosh, they just started operating on FM for eight months and they're already a failure. Would you prefer 98.7 went with, say, an alternative rock format?

This is what this whole discussion is based on:

It will be in NYC,” Donohue disclosed, addressing the listener’s concern that he would be unable to hear Malusis’ new national show locally. “I’m unsure of the channel just yet, but… you will definitely hear it in NYC, that I do know.”

You are all listening to someone who calls a radio station a channel?? Oh dear God...what has radio come to??? It really is the blind leading the blind!!

With WFAN on the AM is going to launch CBS Sports Radio this Wednesday, is WFAN-AM is planning to drop its simulcast and begin stunting at midnight 1/1/13 where they announce to make the switch to WFAN-FM on 101.9 just like ESPN did back in September where they made the switch to 98.7 only prior to the launch of ESPN Deportes on 1050 AM?

There will be no stunting because there will be no change of format on either 660 or 101.9 for the foreseeable future.

Maybe it will be on 103.9 WFAS because they plan to move it into Bronxville, NY eventually under Cumulus.

It's already licensed to Bronxville and has been owned by Cumulus for several years.

I think he meant the transmitter move. Wasn't it supposed to move to Yonkers?

103.9 is supposed to move to the Bronx on the WFUV/WVIP tower.....Hopefully when they make the move it will kill off the 103.9 pirate in the Newark area which kills WFAS-FM's signal south of Paramus.

cbs sports radio is on the air is it on in the nyc yet??

Yes. CBS Sports Radio is now carried on WCBS FM 101.1 HD3. The simulcast of WCBS 880 AM continues on the HD2.

If the big national advertisers really believe that being on an HD2 is "being in New York," then Corporate America's stupidity nearly matches its greed.

What if they start promoting the fact locally on both 660 and the main 101.9 feed?

With CBS Sports Radio contributor Boomer Esiason 'already in the building', local promotion wouldn't be hard. Neither would exclusive streaming through the CBS New York local site.

Re: CBS Sports Radio "Is In NYC" (well, kinda officially) On 101.1 HD3

Likely when Lenny Bloch was let go from WCBS-FM (and he was the caretaker for the CBS HD2 "ToNY" channel), that move seemed to pave the way for the CBS Sports Network to take "ToNY's" place on the 101.1 HD lineup (although the deck chairs were reshuffled a bit).

While it theoretically would make more sense programming-wise to put the network on 101.9 HD2, I'm guessing signal preservation could be at work here. (Citation needed ;) ;D)
Also consider that while WEPN 98.7 analog and HD1 is also in mono, it does have 2 additional HD channels (Deportes - usually and ESPNews - intermittently).

*Note: the debut of Ferrall On The Bench at 10pm ET on 1/1/13 was via the feed of WIP-AM-610 Philadelphia - at least that's what's being heard over the CBS Sports Radio players and streams as of this posting.
After Midnight ET 1/2/13 when the network had its national debut, local liners for WIP 610 were still running on the stream.
**NYC note: as expected, the commercials and local liners heard on 101.1 HD3 are different from the webstream.
The 101.1 HD3 and higher quality webstream feeds are almost simultaneous; judging from back when WFAN was on 660 and 92.3 HD3, the webstream/101.1 HD3 feeds are likely 50-65 seconds behind "real time/live".

Sponsorships: broadcasting from the O'Reilly Auto Parts Studio in New York (at the Hudson Square complex where the CBS Radio-New York stations are located; one of the WFAN studios was recently rewired for the new network).
Phone number: 1-855-212-4CBS
Twitter: http://twitter.com/CBSSportsRadio
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CBSSportsRadio

Basically the same formatics as WFAN: 20/20 updates at :00, :20 and :40
[Jay Berman (WINS NYC/WEPN NYC freelancer) did the 10pm-11:40pm ET updates; Peter Schwartz (WFAN updates/Jets reporter) has the Midnight-onward ET shift].
As at WFAN, Paul Turner voices the network sweepers/liners.

Scott Ferrall joined Tony Paige on WFAN at 2:07am after his 1st national shift ended. Talking about his first national show and his stint on Howard Stern's "Howard 101" SiriusXM channel. How he's matured over the years...etc. Glad to be back at CBS Radio.

I hope there'll be a podcast up on www.WFAN.com under the "other audio" section later.

There is a new transmitter built, tested and ready to go in the Bronx (same site as WFUV and WVIP).
Cumulus has yet to apply for a license to cover.
Bronxville isn't the Bronx.
