CC ABOUT TO LAUNCH FM NEWS STATION?

I have it!

Lori Sheppard is bringing back WADY, only with a mean streak of angry programming! :D

Debbie Nygro will host weekends, and calls will be made and recorded cross-country to current employers of Lori insulting former employees...

As those Guinness dudes say, "Brilliant!"

WADY was before my time, sweet looking logo though. Can anyone here tell me what it was like?

I have bits and pieces of old airchecks (I was 3-4 at the time it actually existed).

Basically Top 40/AC music from the era ('79-'80), mixed with "liner advice" for singles.

"The Lady Notes: Brown is a good color to attract the opposite Sex" is the one I have.....Apparently there were other more "X Rated" liners such as one about alcohol and its' ability to impair certain male organs from performing certain functions, but I don't have that in my aircheck, just stuff people told me.

My aircheck also mentions "get togethers" they did for singles, and a promotion for a "Carvel 'Lady Cake'".

You gotta admit it's pretty unique.

Ah, thank you for jogging sweet memories of THE LADY: "When considering a threesome, it's important to remember that none of the partners should be neglected, and all should be made to feel attractive and an equal part of the scene. Helpful advice from The Lady on 1320" (into "If You Leave Me Now" by Chicago).

The call letters were WLQY throughout - it never was WADY, though they called it "The Lady" 99% of the time. We joked that it should have been WTCH..."The witch"...or something that rhymed.

There's something about the station that strikes me, but ultimately it sounds like they took what would have made for a good if not decent 3-4 hour show and stretched it out over a 24 hour period. Still, i admire the willingness to experiment!

Actually, the FCC shows the calls as having been WADY for about 4 months.

Oops! I stand corrected. I left S. Florida in March of 1980, which is when the FCC sez the calls changed. Missed that completely.

I still like WTCH....

The two candidates for a format change to the new MIA should have been 94.9 or 105.9. The classic rock format should have been relocated to 103.5 as She 103.5 as it once was. Who knows, something may happen with 105.9 since their ratings are at an abysmal 1.9, making it the lowest rated FM in Miami. What a waste of a 100,000 watt signal.

Change 94.9 in a market that is going to be over 50% Hispanic as soon as 2009? Why would you do that?

WMGE, in the last trend of Arbitron data is fourth in 18-34 in Miami and in the last extrapolated month, it is tied for third.

You are right on the money there David. I could understand your breakdown on the demos regarding 94.9. Whats the demo rating for Big 105.9? Curious on it since their ratings were a horrible 1.9 in the last book.

Too bad the format didn't catch on for it to make it to FM. Pretty cool concept for a format. The format was ahead of its time. Would have been a hit today. Too bad there are no radio companies willing to take a risk and for a change to think outside the box. CC should consider something like this for 105.9. Anything is better on that frequency than their burnt out classic rock. Might help them get ratings better than a 1.9.

Speaking of thinking outside the box like I mentioned in my previous post, what CC should do regarding 105.9, would be to recreate what "1320 The Lady" was, and relocating the classic rock format back to 103.5 and rebranding it back to SHE 103.5 with a deep classic rock playlist. CC can do it since they still own the call letters. Both moves would help bring alot of publicity and would be both the talk of South Florida and in all of radio. Miami radio needs a jolt. With 93.9 MIA, hopefully more will come from CC. Only time will tell. These two moves can't hurt either station since 105.9's ratings have been horrible for years, and the 103.5 signal has been cursed since Paxson Broadcasting screwed up the 103.5 signal for Planet Radio. Anything is better than what they currently have their now. ;D
