CC cuts deeply into Fox Sports Radio

With Fox Sports radio crapping out I will probobly will let my XM subscription run out. I want live overnight sports with call ins so I will be listening to WFAN or WIP on my CPU overnight and maybe WQEEI will go live and local overnights also.

If anyone got jobbed it was Maller, what a good host.

JT and Looney are borderline unlistenable these days.

Bring back the Morning Extravaganza! Those were the days.

J.T and looney are OK but Maller and Sedano who did overnights before him were terrific, Some of the Best Radio out there.

It's sad, what was a great network, much better than ESPN Radio and their obsession with professional football (two hours a night every night), is now reduced to Dan Patrick middays, which my local Fox Sports affiliate already picked up when it started, and a bunch of LA based shows evenings.

First Team is pretty good, with the interviews they have every morning, but now, I have no reason to listen to anything else.

What will Fox become? The Lakers, Dodgers, and USC network? That's what ESPN has always been, only Yankees, Red Sox, and talk of about four NFL teams.

Where is Realdeal now? I would love to hear the spin on this....I've missed that ol' lapdog. How about that automated overnight schedule? Comment? Turn that lemon into lemonade!

I will admit to this - that I was really starting to like the Fox format quite a bit. Well, before they fired half of their staff, that is. Good thing JT has vast real estate holdings. He may have to put up the rest of the production crew up in one of his castles.

James Washington, Craig Shemon, Andrew Sciliano, Krystal Fernandez, Ben Maller, Deb Carson all gone, poof

I did hear Deb doing an update tonight, so I think they retained her.

As for the new 7-10 ET show, what the hell is that? Those two dudes were acting really weird and making all these sounds, and I had to turn it off after about 30 seconds before I'd lose my mind.

The new night show is unlistenable. They are awful when they sub for Jim Rome, and I can't believe somebody thought it was a good idea to give them a full national show.

Bring back Andrew!

Many affiliates won't even notice the change because many don't run the full network. But, CC made a big mistake ~ ESPN easily will be dominant ~ turning FSR into a small-time netlet. Very stupid! ???

ESPN already does...They shuffle people and shows around less than FSR and SNR do. They have a more stable lineup of people and shows which helps them build listenership, plus they'retied in to the TV side of things, unlike FSR

I just let my XM subscription run out. What great timing!

I like the morning show, and thought overall FSR was a little better than ESPN. More cutting commentary, less pc. But it looks like the CC monster had killed off most of the edge FSR held.

Lately, the more I listen to most radio, the more I like my CD's.

FOX Sports |Radio made the bihhest mistake. Ben Maller was one of the BEST radio announcers on FOX Sports |Radio Network

Currently John Frickie is filling in week overnights. He is normally on late Saturday and late Sunday nights. He is one of the BEST radio announcers on FOX Sports Radio. They should just either keep him on there. Or they should put Hacksaw Hamilton or Kate Delaney on. ALL are the best radio announcers on FOX Sports Radio.
That's my thought

Two things: I like Czabe, even though he does the same things in the same spots every week, but does his show merit airing TWICE every day? 6 hours for one show? Couldn't FSR have put a live show in the 12-3pm spot? I understand it's Rome's spot, but not all affiliates air Rome. Keeping with Czabe theme, this might be a dumb question, but could Sporting News pick up some of these guys and strengthen their network? Maybe become a legit #3? I realize it'd be spending money, but what do I care, it's not my money... : )

I'd imagine he's either been laid off as well or as some long suspected, he's probably turning over in his grave both literally and figuratively.

I think they already are a legit three..the way FSR is headed..Sporting News may be a solid #2. I think the opportunity is there for another sports network to be formed that may hurt both SNR and FSR but might actually be able to get some decent clearance depending on the talent.

I'm amazed at how little people on this board know about sports radio. Nothing wrong with having your "favorite" hosts and the usual lap-dogs for a network or person on here to kiss butt, BUT, if you can't see what a sham this Fox Sports Radio restructuring is and also not realize that Sporting News is on life support and should be dead very, very soon, you just don't get it.

All Clear Channel did was shuffle the chairs on the Titanic. Are they "Number 2" behind ESPN Radio? Yes, but big fricken deal!

Dan Patrick was already a Premiere network cleared show, even though he doesn't work for Clear Channel. Sheeman and Washington had no major affiliates, so they were easy to unload and slip Patrick's show as an "alleged part of the network" to make stations think they were upgrading that slot by firing people.

Rome is also Premiere and has his own sweetheart deal where he doesn't run as a FSR or ESPN show, but the desperate suits who sell him keep him independent hoping to get him on as many stations as possible. Rome's star is fading as he isn't on in NY, Phila or Chicago - and in those major markets where they pay to keep him on, Rome is buried at nights on tape delay like Patrick in many cities.

They got rid of the rest of the shows because they were not being cleared in many places AND they just wanted to dump more salaries. Picking up the KLAC local shows and trying to make them national required no money, talent, hires or effort.

Chris Myers was thrown in with Steve Hartman because somehow, Myers is perceived as a "connected major talent", when he's basically a sideline hack who Fox thinks people want to here. He already had a show on FSR, so they combined him and Hartman. Those 2 egos should make for great radio. At least when Myers doesn't show up half the time for his TV gigs, Hartman can go back to screaming every day.

The only reason JT remains on is because he has too much time left on his last ridiculous contract and Clear Channel didn't want to swallow that money and then have to put something else on. Bruno was already on in that slot on KLAC from 7 to 10 pacific, but his show is syndicated by Westwood One and my sources tell me he would have been put into that slot had JT's deal been close to done. Bruno remains on in that time slot and on many major market stations. He lost KLAC due to Clear Channel owning the station and trying to get their monies worth out of JT's show, not because his show wasn't working or not better than the Bricks.

Dumping Ben Maller and his crew was simply cost cutting. Notice, they replaced that show with re-runs. Why? It doesn't cost anything!

So there it is. Radio is in trouble. Sports radio is mostly garbage and for those on this board who think Sporting News is legit with that brutal line-up of small potatoes talent with no major affiliates is going to survive, think again.

Also, do you think ANYONE would be stupid enough to start another sports network now? Get real people!

i don't think a 4th network at this point would be successful but considering Fox now clearing Dan Patrick and I hope ultimately Tony Bruno's new show, I would imagine whether it's through the Content Factory or another independent company, Fox may be willing to give even more of their programming schedule which would probably end up dissolving the FSR name altogether except maybe on weekends.

Anyone have a guess where Maller surfaces? I am still a little mad to see him first put in the graveyard and then cut. What a good talent.

Just seeing what others may think-could Maller end up on Mad Dog Radio on Satellite? They are still looking for programs on that station and they want 24 hour programming, so Maller would be a perfect fit in the overnights IMO...

If SIRI-XM has the money..........

Good point... Mad Dog Radio just added 2 shows within the past 2 weeks, so anything is possible...

i for one liked the fox radio thing better than espn's lineup. mike and mike are just the same everyday. greenie makes fun of golics weight and golic makes fun of greenies primping. and the "hey greenie...." thing drives me mad. the problem may be the pee wee am stations where fox distributes the show. most seem to be 5,000 watts or less. maybe i'm wrong. will really miss the fox guys and gals.

QP, why didn't your "sources" fill you in on all of these moves a few weeks ago? So you think Rome is done because his show isn't on in Chicago? J.T. was on more stations than anyone at Fox and just added LA, but because of his "sweet contract", he will not last? How about Fox dumping Dan Patrick for Ben Maller? That could work! Maybe get rid of Rome and add some cheaper talent who is currently out of work? Maybe Fox will fire Myers(who is hosting NASCAR on FOX), because your sources have another out of work host(that you approve of) who could work better with Hartman. You are a bitter listener who is sad that Bruno can't get his show on any Network because he lost his edge on the air and burned every bridge in sports radio.
