What is Clear Channel supposed to do?
We are clearly in frightening times economically. Did you see what happened with the market yesterday, and the very real danger facing Bank of America, Citibank, and other venerable institutions? Yes -we're in deep trouble because corporations were greedy and made very poor decisions. Compared to these, Clear Channel looks like a bunch of geniuses.
I work in a public agency that gets its funding primarily from property taxes and sales taxes. We're vulnerable too, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a a s__t-storm of layoffs and service cuts next year.
To mis-quote Bette Davis: "Fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy ride."

In this case, Major Hochstetter was absolutely right when he said
"what is this man doing here?" ;D

Damn shame about Laurie, especially. Class lady and a great jock and programmer.

Agreed...maybe they can even take a 30% cut. Or are they Dennis Kozlowski wannabes?

I know it's a sad situation of late with this gnus, but regards that last comment, OFan:
LMAO!!!
A little dark humor is needed here...And Gawd bless Howard Caine (Major Hochstetter)!
;D

So was Clark Reid, to hear from a few people...
and most of the others, I'm sure...

Although it has been mentioned many a time throughout these R-I boards, and will likely
remain true, we know that the pre-deregulation radio days will never return...
We can only hope that those present-day owners full of avariciousness and insecurity will rid
themselves from the buisness, and that more-responsible ownership and quality management
will return in their place, to undo whatever damage that was created...

dconstab said:For those who don't remember, KABL, under Mr. Reid's excellent music guidance, had the best radio personalities for years, and played some of the best music of all time. Now, thanks to Clear Channel, we have no station left that plays Tony Bennet's "I Left My Heart In San Francisco." I mourn the loss of KABL on a daily basis and miss the voices of Jim Lange, Dino Donikian, Carter B. Smith, and of course, Mr. Reid.
I hope that Clear Channel will do what's right and hire Clark Reid back, a third time, and while they're at it, bring KABL back along with the great standards, Carter B. Smith and Dino Donikian.
