ok fm's are doing somewhat good: last ppm i saw had koda @ #3 they used to be #1
I will be the first to admit that I am no big fan of CC, as a company, but that being said, I must be fair. Their stations are solid, even in the wake of uncertainty that surrounds the deal to go private.
I have felt, of late, that KODA is trying to sound like Mix once did (Mix is trying to change their sound, too; to what yet, I'm not sure). I haven't listened to Sunny for any length of time for a few months, now, so maybe I'm no judge.
Still, that being said, #3 is a mark that many stations would like to achieve and that is up from #5, last month. Certain stations trend like this a lot. As I've witnessed over the years, KODA skyrockets in the ratings with the Christmas format, dips a little in the late winter, holds steady in the spring and drops a little to the rap, Top 40, and alternative, during the summer, while the kids are on summer break, before coming back again in the fall. I've seen this happen, year-to-year, and it is nearly as predictable as the sunrise in the morning. They're rarely to never lower than top 5, as a station.
As was stated when the ratings came up in a discussion last month, the PPM is never kind to AM stations and while 740 has taken a hit, how much of that is due to the fact that the PPM system is still rather flawed and unkind to the AMs? In my estimate, quite a bit.
Given my past history with CC, I am the last person who should stand in line to praise them, but I think we should be fair here; when six of the eight stations in the cluster make the top 11, they're, obviously, doing something right.
