Cha Cha Cha Changes at Archway/New Bern

I remember when Hot and Bob could combine for a 10 share... not anymore.

I remember 93DLX having a helluva lot more than a 10 share!!

I'm too young to remember those days :)

I remember when Bob was 3-4ish and Hot was pulling 6's and 7's. It doesn't add up to me how people can quit liking the same kind of music. I would think either Hot would be up, or Bob would be up, and the other down... not both down. That's radio though.

WRNS has never gone low ball, they always have gone top dollar $100+ for a prime time spot, thats why they are the top biller in the market. It does 60%+ of Next's revenue. Go to Next's website and you can figure the dollars. There are more points in Country than any other format. Just cuz Hank is in the low 2's numbers wise doesn't mean with some real sustained promotion they can't make a dent in the dollars RNS pulls in. If you act like the red headed step child you'll always be one. Hot could actually beat Bob if they stopped trying to imitate and tried to be Hot again.

They are being Hot as much as Archway will let them. I still get that Hot FM vibe from them when I listen. It's nothing like it was before, but it's present.

I'm also a big Bob and Sheri fan. They're on my good side to begin with for adding that.

That said, the ship has sunk. I don't know anyone who still listens to 103.7 (past 10am anyway). They all consider Bob the de-facto top 40 station.

You are right about Hot having giving up the ghost. How about simulcasting QDR on the Hank freqs. One rumor was 96.3 to country, 103.7 to a Jack format.

Anyone listen to Bob the Blade's debut on SFL yesterday? For me it was good, but it's G'vegas not "Greenvegas" I hope he doesn't make the usual "Downeast" blunders: that everything east of 95 is "Downeast"

The only sensible format for 103.7 if the signals are split apart is a variety hits/Jack FM format. Extremely cheap to run (no DJ's needed) and it would do very, very well in Greenville. Will FM has that format locked up for New Bern/Jax though.

I have to imagine the ratings that are left are coming from 96.3. Bob owns Greenville. That's just a fact. You can see the tower lights from many parts of Greenville so even on the crappiest radios it booms in. They could leave 96.3 CHR and take 103.7 variety hits -- that would make sense.

As for country, forget it. There is no sense in trying to keep that in the cluster.

On the subject of Blade... he sounds great but he has a LOT of eastern NC-isms to learn. I heard him doing a sponsorship read for Feyer Ford. It's "fire" not "fee-yer"! It's the same blunders everyone new to the market makes. He'll get settled in though, I say just give it a little time.

According to the Raleigh News & Observer, the stations purchased are "underperforming", which means
we could see some format changes. I noticed that Henry Hinton, his son, Hank, and Don Curtis, who
is putting together a good-sized radio ownership in North Carolina, is creating a new group called
"Inner Banks Media" which means there will be a focus on being "local" and not "corporate" as
others are, which is why radio is in the state that it is right now.
I've wondered if they would flip 96.3 and 103.7 to say a "talk" format?, both have 100,000 watts,
and would give the Greenville/New Bern/Jacksonville extensive coverage of shows like Bill O'Reilly,
Sean Hannity, and others, and with WWTB in Topsail Beach changing frequencies from 103.9 to
104.1, and going from talk to "Satellite" Contemporary Christian soon, this would be the time to
make this move, and maybe what the Hinton's should do is sell "Talk 1070" WNCT in Greenville to
another radio group and take the programming on their right now and switch it to FM once the
FCC approves the sale, we shall see how all this takes shape in the coming months.

Henry doesn't own 1070, he has an LMA on it with Beasley. Beasley has the ECU Pirates deal, not Henry, and if he decides to take the talk format to his own station he will no longer have ECU sports. I doubt he'd do that.

I agree with DJ, if you look at the Hinton legacy ot has been talk focused and not music. The long term plan wil be to move talk to several of the 4 properties recently purchased.

In regard to ECU, the pull that Hinton has will go far in moving from SFL and 1070 to the new properties in short order. It is only a matter of time.

If this move happens at the beach WTKF will finally have some competition.

Yep, She is one powerful box. Kinda easy to get out of hand. I find it has real tight peak control, I can modulate without RDS or SCA 99.98% with no overshoot and it does sound louder than the other processors. If you play with the presets, let me know and we will share some and see how we like them.

Couple of things... you may want to check the deviation meter on your exciter. Last time through the building it was WAAAY over. Second, LISTEN to the station. It makes my ears bleed. I am not ripping on you, just giving my honest opinion. I have run Monia 6s a number of times. It is so easy to get these to sound like garbage. You can make a Orban sound GOOD yet still be the loudest in the market.

"How much did Hinton sell his two FM signals to Archway for? Wasn't it about the same that he and Curtis have now paid for the group of four? That's a good deal. Sell two stations with less than class A coverage for about the same you pay to get one back, a class B and two class C signals."

Hinton sold his stations (94.3FM and 98.3FM) to Archway for about $3 million. The question is, who will Hinton keep on board with this acquisition and will he move everything back to Greenville?

By the way....who are the local Archway managers these days?

Sorry I snapped on the last post. I always try to not let these things bother me but,,,,,,,,, It is a pretty stressful time right now. I will admit when I am wrong and it looks like I am. I borrowed a Mod monitor and another spectrum analyzer, and you guys are right! I am headed to the site this afternoon and will pull it down. Obviously, all the dragging around of my mod monitors has put out of cal. Some worse than others, all read low. I appreciate the comments from all of you, next time I hope to be better prepared. You can bet that my monitors will all go back for calibration. Sorry again. I just want to be a good steward of the airwaves.

Hey RFGuy ...Why isn't each site equiped with its own modulation monitor? There isn't a site that I've worked on that didn't have its own monitoring gear. Plus given the nature of the monitoring gear and how easy it is to knock one out of calibration with a few bumpy road trips....oooyyyiiiieee!

BTW, do you have any photos of your sites to show off?
