Chambo to CBS5

Mike Chamberlin will be joining CBS5 as morning and noon co-anchor beginning Monday, February 13th.

He appeared during the Noon show (Friday) along with Diana and Jeff to make that announcement and to say he was there to "sign some papers".

No sign of Overall, however.

Anyone care to read into this?

I read into it that Chambo needs a job and channel 5 is trying to sign some name talent to bolster their image. I don't particularly care for his anchor style, but Chambo's a good guy and might attract a few viewers. In fact, his style may be better for morning and midday anyway.

If you're implying that he's a threat to Kent Dana; I highly doubt it. Kent's pretty secure.

More info on Chambo's new gig in today's Business Journal:

Overall is "still an employee."

Co-anchor weekends? The 5-7pm slot on
Saturday especially, with ninety minutes
of local, is a lot of face time to have
just one news anchor.

Overall's bio is GONE from the website. I would assume that he has been ushered out of the building, but has been paid through the end of his contract.

Not implying that at all.
I agree that Kent is secure.

Glad to see Chambo back on Phoenix TV.
I've always liked his style.
Edited by desertskies on 02/11/06 07:42 AM.

They're horribly understaffed in sports, and they hire a man who was a sports anchor for 14 years in this market to do morning news. The whole problem with Chambo at 3 was how uncomfortable he looked doing news.

As for the comment of a threat to Kent Dana, I would remind the board that 5 paid an outrageous sum of money for Dana, which is not something Meredith does for anyone, and their ratings have improved. Chambo a threat? Even 5 isn't that stupid.

The good news is that 5's practice of hiring retreads means Heidi Fogelsong has a new place to try her "I'll be here long term" speech when she gets tired of KTAR in about five weeks.

Great to see Chambo back on television but sorry to hear that it was at the expense of Overall. Maybe Overall can go to ABC-15 because they hired the last two male anchors (Pfeffer and Du Pre) that CBS-5 dimissed.

Plus! the whole tv5 staff will get that free Chambo Christmas CD! Woo-Hoo!

I Dream of Gina

> Plus! the whole tv5 staff will get that free Chambo

They got it last XMAS from Corragio - the other half of the Singing Anchors!

What In The Wide, Wide World of Sports is a goin' on with Gina Maravilla - the other anchorette with Overall in the AM? Nurse Jeff and I could never figure out which one of them used more orange colored makeup. YECK! Anyway, we're not convinced Chambo in AM is going to have any impact as long as 5 is married to the CBS Morning Show. AZ-TV probably gets better ratings running Mayberry RFD against it!

Doc:
One...adjust your set...Gina's fine. She and Chambo will make a great anchor team.
Two...we don't carry "Mayberry RFD". But we DO beat, tie or come within half a point of CBS' Early Show with our Joyce Meyer on a fairly regular basis.

We rest our case, Hag...a test pattern could tie or beat the CBS Morning Show! As far as the rabbit ears go, I'll have Nurse Jeff move the 76 Gremlin Levi's Special out of the line of sight and see what happens.

Re: Early Mornings

Hey man, I watched that test pattern yesterday, it was kinda dull at first but then, the color bars all sort of mashed together.

It was cool.

I'm going to buy it on DVD.
