i think that every station needs competition in its market.

(1) That's not physically possible!

(2) Wouldn't better to have 30 formats than 15 twice?

1. How is that not "physically" possible?

2. Do you listen to 30 different formats?

(1) not enough radio stations

(2) no idea, but I'm a sample of ONE. Perhaps by the time you sample a much larger section of the population, the needs will be more numerous.

Physically wasn't the word to use. Not everyone needs competition but I think the teen-oriented formats do. Well, even some of the other formats do. I think these formats need competition.

1. CHR
2. Urban
3. Country
4. Rock (Maybe)

You DO realize that these are businesses, right? And that owners/investors/shareholders are going to expect a return on their investment, right?

If a teen-formatted competitor will make money, it'll happen. If not, it won't.

Of course, this need for teen-oriented competition sounds rather age-biased against those in their 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, etc. Most of whom would be more likely to actually LISTEN to radio. And have more disposable income. So they'd be seen as a more lucrative target listener.

Makes sense to me. But apparently Clear Channel Columbus doesn't understand this logic at all. That's why they made under-signalled Columbus's first new city-grade signal in 40 years the *third* AC.

Ah hell, I reckon their oughtta be another damn Country station or two. Four Country stations just ain't enough in these parts.

I guess the glass-half-full view is that Columbus radio is actually less saturated with Country now than it was in the mid-nineties. It was crazy.

WCOL dominates country. I agree there should be another one, but God, Country's taking up a lot of the dial.

Ever heard of sarcasm? ::)

Given the beancounters at CC, CBS, Emmis and the other megabroadcasters, NOBODY's going to spend the TONS of money it would take to take a bite out of WNCI.

CHR/Rhythmic KPWR (aka Power 106) knocked CHR/Pop powerhouse KIIS-FM out of the #1 slot in the ratings here in LA twenty years ago, and KIIS hasn't been the same since.

Why something similar hasn't happened to WNCI over the past TWENTY years---well, go figure!!!!

Then there's the problem of getting a signal which covers Columbus as well as WNCI's, which wouldn't be easy, or possibly even doable these days.

Come again?? KIIS is #2 12+, Power is tied for 6th. In the last 4 books, KIIS has done no worse than a 4.5; Power has done no better than a 3.8.

LOL. CC isn't worried about hurting NCI. NCI will be fine on its own. Why didn't they do it? Beats me.

They are not only worried about hurting NCI (in general), they are worried to irrational excess.  This is much more a CC/Columbus hangup than a CC/national or regional hangup.

Pbf1---KIIS is NOT the CHR/Pop powerhouse that it was twenty years ago, whereas WNCI hasn't missed a beat ratings-wise in years!!!!

Since Power 107.5 is #4 in the ratings right now, I don't really think there's anything wrong with it.

I hate comments like yours. It's the same typical out of town corporate BULLSH**! You have no idea how bad Power 107 is because you can't HEAR them. You only ASSUME they are doing ok because of 12+ ratings but you refuse to consider that they have ZERO competition.

You only ASSUME WNCI is all mighty and great because they are always in the top 3 but you never even TRY to consider that they have the most powerful stick in ALL OF OHIO! Nobody could reach their listening audience so therefore nobody can compete with them.

Ok, I'm done venting now.
