Change Needed at WCKX Power 107.5 FM

Pbf1---KIIS is NOT the CHR/Pop powerhouse that it was twenty years ago, whereas WNCI hasn't missed a beat ratings-wise in years!!!!

Since Power 107.5 is #4 in the ratings right now, I don't really think there's anything wrong with it.

I hate comments like yours. It's the same typical out of town corporate BULLSH**! You have no idea how bad Power 107 is because you can't HEAR them. You only ASSUME they are doing ok because of 12+ ratings but you refuse to consider that they have ZERO competition.

and i hate comments like this. the typical, "i don't like the way this station sounds so this is how it should be run despite the fact that the station receives good ratings". to say that these stations do not have competition is ridiculous. no one, by any means, is chained to their radios. do you really think that people say, wow this is horrible, but i can't seem to reach my cds, or mp3s, or cell phones, or tv remote or the off button, so i guess i'll just keep listening and mark it on this ratings diary. This is, after all, still a business. They run the station to get the ratings to give to the sales people to get the advertisers to buy time on the station. It would be nice if it was for the love of music and art, but its not and this is what are are stuck with.

You only ASSUME WNCI is all mighty and great because they are always in the top 3 but you never even TRY to consider that they have the most powerful stick in ALL OF OHIO! Nobody could reach their listening audience so therefore nobody can compete with them.

nobody can reach their listening audience? you mean that your radio can only pick up WNCI? you should look into getting another one, if that is the case.

It doesn't really matter anyway. They're being sold.

And at this point with them being sold, they could stay the format they are, improve or totally change formats, none of us really know at this point.

Well, if they want to stay Urban, they better step it up because I guarentee if they don't, they're done for. And if they switch formats, WNCI will probably be the #1 FM station in the city.

Then who would be willing to spend the $$$$ to take on Power 107.5 to begin with?

Also, how long has WCKX been in existence with its present format?

Since Columbus is the 16th largest city in the country, a lack of competition is NOT their problem.

But the lack of a decent stick---well that IS a problem, isn't it?

CKX's class A downtown I dont think limits them as much as it would be if they where a Rim Shooter doing their format, they do very well for a Class A. I think the fact their signal is downtown in the heart of columbus helps them big time. Im sure thats why blue chip naturally moved WCKX's format from 106.3 to 107.5 many years ago.

agreed, both the 107.5 and 98.9 signals are great downtown, and ckx is about 17 to 20 miles in most directions, it suffers with the 107.7 signal from dayton in some of the lower parts of london. but for the metro area, the signal is fine, and being downtown, the building penetration is fine.

106.3, i always thought it was fixable, but it's going to take cleaning up some of that rf mess at twin rivers drive, which probably isn't going to happen without fcc intervention.

I think if you want to improve ckx, you need to start with the programming, and some of the comments that were initially made in this string. I do think Paul Strong is a great jock, but he needs a strong PD to run shoulders on him, ad I think the current guy can do that, i don't know if he does.

on some of the other comments, I agree with some, disagree with others, but think the overall quality of 107.5 has always been about 40%, and could be a lot better. I do blame this on Radio One, and not completely on the local management types.

Anyone who really wants to understand, just need to look at the corporate structure. Half a brain should figure it out.

Wow...I mean...wow

i have never had a problem with Paul as a jock. I think he is better than a lot I've seen over the years. I think if he was properly supervised, and molded, he is capable of being one of the best in the country. With that said, i know he really needs supervision, that was my point of comment. Columbus should be happy they didn't have to live with Russ Parr!

personally, i like him, and i did when i worked with him. of course, i have been in this biz a long time, and after being brandmeiers pd for a while, i can deal with just about anything.

though he probably won't say the same about me.

Paul is good. He's not as enthusiastic as before though. It's starting to get old. I remember when they were "Continuous Jamz". Now they're "Columbus' Hottest Hip-Hop & R&B." That's getting REAL OLD. Can't they think of something better? Also, Russ Parr does weekends on 107.

Yep. I noticed. What else is there to choose from though? If you think about it, the urban listeners either have to listen to WXMG which is too slow for them, NCI which is too Mainstream, or pick up WDHT out of Dayton which is unreliable because of the signal. So they listen to the crappy 107. I don't blame them.

Just a reminder to some posters here:

12 plus numbers mean absolutely nothing. They're good for only bragging rights.

It's what's in the demos that count. I'm sure Power does well 18-34 and 12-24, probably not as good as NCI does in the upper demos. It's 25-54 that's the "money demo".
