Changes @ 93.1 WNOX

On a promo @ WNOX I heard they are getting a new morning show host? Did Frank Murphy leave the station? Also noticed that the music has softened just a bit, not as much classic rock but added some softer tunes in the mix.

Apparently Frank was let go. It's a shame really. He's a nice guy and he's probably forgotten more about radio than anyone else there will ever know.

As for the music, I don't detect any changes. It's still a narrow rock-leaning classic hits playlist.

I hate to hear about Frank, he was really involved in the community. I'm sure he will land on his feet somewhere, maybe even locally.
As far as the format if they are going to be classic hits, I wish they would play them all with a wider based format, add in the disco tunes from the 70's along with some dance out of the 80's mixed in the the rock tunes they are playing. I understand why they went more rock, just to skew some numbers off of WIMZ to help Star 102.

I agree with your idea for the format. Or... If they want to keep the rock lean, then they need to dig deeper. I used to listen to a couple of the "Arrow" stations back in the '90s which had a similar format but had a large enough playlist of rock-leaning classic hits to keep it sounding fresh.

Sorry to hear about Frank, but he's bounced around for decades.

It's really frustrating that nobody has any idea how to program a good "oldies" format in this town. It's ripe for one.

Frank has worked in that building for something like 16 years between Star and Classic Hits 93.1. He's always had other projects going and will no doubt land somewhere locally in radio or TV. As far as the format, I kind of don't get it, but Jack probably made them decide to go after WIMZ...which would seem to mean the rimshots cancel each other out.

Tell ya what. Turn me loose with 1 signal. AM, FM, Translator, two cans and a greased string and let me put a format on that isn't being done well or at all in the market and you pay me $10,000 for each point 12+ in the first 2 books. Other than the utilities on the transmitter there would be no overhead.

The programming is free. The revenue is free. What do you have to lose?

Tony Cox at WFIV might be receptive.
