Changes ahead for 700 WLW Mid-day Lineup??!!???

facebook page (even though he aint a facebook kind of guy) to try to sway Mikey boy to stay in Cincy... http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mike-McConnell-Dont-go-to-Chicago/133884933292799?created#!/pages/Mike-McConnell-Dont-go-to-Chicago/133884933292799?v=wall

Was just getting ready to post this info as well, of what microbob has posted....

Considering that Cunningham has taped some type of talk show pilot in Chicago recently; I wouldn't be surprised if he jumps ship.

Does anyone remember a few months back (maybe two months ago)...Cunningham and Springer (Yes..Bill Cunningham and Jerry Springer) taped a half hour "Debate/Discussion" Current Events type show. It was taped at Fox19 and aired late on a Friday or Saturday Night....it was kind of like watching Siskel and Ebert doing current events... [shutters] :-\ [/shutters]

Let them go to Chicago....as much as people are saying that Cunningham is an "Institution" in Cincinnati (that's debate able right there)....his brashness for politics, etc. would be better suited up there anyway.

That last sentence is possible, but he just doesn't strike me as a Chicago personality. Much of my family is from there and having spent a lot of time in that city, I don't see him going over well on WGN if he takes the show he does now in Cincinnati and transfers it two frequencies and 300 miles up the dial. It's kind of like Marty and Joe only in the sense that their act was suited for this region and that market (and that is the only comparison I am making between Willie and Marty and Joe, lest anyone get offended).
McConnell could do it ... he doesn't "sound" Cincinnati and his type show could play on GN. I am wondering who might go farewell if McConnell does move to 720.

Most of my family is from Chicago. I can see Mike working out well. Not so sure about Cunningham.

Which company wins the price war, if it goes there?

Maybe some of the audience will scatter over to WQRT....

I agree, I could see McConnell on WGN, but not Cunningham. If Cunningham was going to be on the Chicago airwaves, he would fit better on WLS, where they seem to like obnoxious loudmouths *cough* Mancow *cough*

No matter what they do, they'll still wind up sounding like they're part of the WWF. :(
Don't you mean WWE, what the former WWF has been called since 2002? ;D That is, unless you're talking about those Wildlife Fund folks. ::)

Mike plays it straight and it is amazing how many people don't quite understand Willie's gig or even Tracy Jones's gig. That makes their shows more interesting when the callers fall for all of it.

I have lived in Cincinnati for over 30 years and I am still amazed at how sensitive many Cincinnatians are. Fiesty, blunt talk mixed with hyperbole to make a point seems to scare many of them.

Trump used to make them cry and I guess so did Furman. The suicide rate would have skyrocketed here had Pete Franklin invented sports talk here rather than Cleveland.

A-plus post. Cincinnati's a great town but some aspects of it are way too territorial and sensitive.

It apparently doesn't scare that many people, since WLW is the number one station in town. Now a Shepard Fairey mural or Robert Mapplethorpe exhibit on the other hand...

Both McConnell and Cunningham have been with WLW for years...anyone remember exactly how long? I'm guessing both have been there since the 80s... ???

So many memories,

Damned Vince McMahon, had he not violated the 1994 agreement he had with the Wildlife Fund they'd still be called the WWF today. His ego got the best of him for once.

I also remember Cunningham having some kind of small time allotment on WKEF in Dayton during the 11 o'clock news back in the 80s.
McConnell might be OK...Cunningham, not so sure. We'll see when the Cincinnati guppies swim in the shark-infested waters of the Windy City.

We wish McConnell and Cunningham well in the future...They've informed and entertained us for years, and if they want Chicago -- good for them.

For those who worry about WLW and the ratings -- WLW could be off the air for a month and they'll still be No. 1 -- they are a heritage station, they are 50,000 watts and they have the elements people want -- traffic, weather and news.

No need to worry everyone.

WLWT 5 has Confirmed McConnell is leaving for Chicago.

http://www.wlwt.com/entertainment/23821780/detail.html

CINCINNATI -- A longtime voice in Cincinnati radio is moving to Chicago as previously reported.

700WLW announced the departure of Mike McConnell on Monday. The station said the move is effective immediately, and a search for a permanent replacement has begun.

We all knew it might happen... but will it affect WLW in the ratings? I say no. As someone here says, you could probably have a 1 month power outage that affected JUST WLW, and when it came back on, boom, it'd be right back where it began.
