Changes ahead for 700 WLW Mid-day Lineup??!!???

I was just thinking about what Darryl Parks would have to do to entice some of Cincinnati's great past talk show hosts back to The Big One. He'd have to promise:

Carmine, a kevlar vest and a body guard.

Gary Burback, a Harley dealership.

Jim Fox, a 14-year old female call screener.

Bob Trumpy, a carton of Luckies per shift and a trade-deal with a throat doctor.

And there are problems with some current 700 hosts. Erik Deters shows have to be logged as program-length commercials for his bar and law practice. Steve Sloan's lobotomy didn't take so he still babbles incessantly. And Sensible Don is just too intelligent for the average WLW listener. ;D

I wonder if Mike will continue his "The Weekend" syndicated show for Premiere. He can host it regardless of the station, and maintain a presence on WLW.

WLW made the official announcement of McConnell's departure today for Chicago, effective immediately (if not sooner). Scott Sloan fills in for now. I wondered about the weekend show myself and whether WLW will still carry it. I'm gonna guess no.

I hope we get more Darryl Parks and Sensible Don out of this. They've become my second favorite hosts on the station after Cunningham.

McConnell is still on Premiere Radio's website for now; I wouldn't be surprised to see Scott Sloan get the gig in the coming weeks. WLW's program lineup on their site already lists Sloan as host of the "Weekend."

Correct, his page is still up.

But...does anybody know if he had a syndication in Chicago for "The Weekend"? It's not like he's losing much going from Market 28 to market 3... but, it's worth noting if he does, in case he loses that program.

Cunningham may have lost his Chicago affiliate based on the Tribune deal. He had been cleared on WLS-AM 890 10 PM-1 AM ET or 9 PM-Midnight local...but their program schedule does NOT have him.

They stopped before they got to "We hope the door doesn't hit Mike's ass on the way out the door".

The entire staff of 700WLW wants to take this opportunity to thank Mike for his years of service to The Big One and the Tri-State area. Few radio personalities are able to reach a community in a way Mike has and that will be missed. In life people start down new roads and begin new adventures all the time. We hope everyone joins us in wishing Mike all the best in this new beginning of his career.

Did Jim Fox ever do more than 1 shift on WLW?

I used to think Francine from Louisville(?) was a candidate for WLW. Sad about her untimely death.

Paging Sterling? Matt Reese?
I think Jim Fox just did the one shift. Besides, is the bunker at least however many hundred feet away from schools, playgrounds, civilization?

It would not surprise me if Willie went to WGN in the 12-3 slot and Mike in the 9-12 slot, just like they are at WLW.

Also, I think if both host do in fact leave for Chicago, WLW will replace them with Scott Sloan from 9-12 (which seems to have already happend) and Darryl Parks from 12-3 (he is the most logical Cunningham replacement and has been great when filling in for Willie).

Mike wanted to say goodbye but the Knot heads in San Antonio said No!

Mike McConnel tells me: “I thought I’d be on (700) until mid-July…. I would have liked a chance to say goodbye to the audience, but that’s how things shook out… once the news got out. I doubt it was a local decision.”

Just wondering...which station has the larger audience, WLW or WGN? Both must have big numbers.

Well; WLW is in the 28th??? Radio Market in the Nation (32nd for TV...at least it was when I worked at Channel 5 back in the late 1990s)...and WGN is the number 3??? Radio Market in the Nation.

Both stations are 50,000 watts; so they have pretty extensive coverage.
