I wish that WEWS would put Scripps News on one of their subchannels, since the WVPX Akron signal is inconsistent here on the west side of Cleveland. I would like to have a "go to" news service in case of a big storm and the internet goes down (I have youtubeTV).

If WVPX wants to be one of the 'big boys" in NE Ohio, they will need to improve their coverage in the Cleveland area.

Despite "Wanting" since 1953, I think that candle was finally extinguished when PaxTV didn't materialize into what Bud Paxson visualized.

Sidenote: It was supposed to be "Family oriented" by the same founder of Home Shopping Network. As I know so many of you here are so fond of the latter format. ;)

Well, WEWS can still shoehorn in a .7 sub for something else, but I think the plan with the Inyo/Scripps markets was to evenly spread out their networks across the two stations, even if their transmitters are located in two completely different areas with varying coverage areas. Yes, I'm aware that both carry HSN & QVC, and at one time Grit. WEWS could pickup Bounce along side WDLI, as I'm sure there are viewers who have lost the network since it left WUAB.

I'm still waiting for someone to pick up NewsNet. IMO, they have the least amount of bloat.

I would have watched PAX more if my reception wasn't constantly snowy and plagued with multipath interference. I always wanted them to swap affiliations with WQHS as both HSN and Univision were useless to me.

Marty Sullivan was WUAB's Superhost. A very nice man and a true broadcaster, he was great to work with.

No big TV station does anything local anymore except for news and those thinly disguised daytime infomercials, you know where the host/hosts say, "Hey, here's our old friend John Smith who just happens to be an insurance agent who sells annuities to retirees. Tell us all about it!", or, "Welcome Mary Jones, who just opened an exclusive boutique," or, "Here's Dr. Johnson who just developed a dietary supplement that cures warts!"

When requirements for local news/public affairs were gutted, the FCC, in its infinite, stupidity, said "the marketplace will demand these shows on its own," ignoring the infinite greed of the station owners.

And what happened to local access channels on cable? I don't think my company even has one anymore, at least I've not seen it in years.

Only one LPTV seems to really "do local", and that's the one in Canton/Akron. But I can't receive it OTA.

You must be talking about WIVM-LD. They have 4 other stations (mostly in the Canton area) that all act as repeaters. WIVX-LD is the closest one to Cleveland, mostly serving the Akron area. They have an approved application to relocate WIVX-LD to North Royalton to better reach the Cleveland area. However, WIVX-LD is broadcasting on RF 13, and being shoehorned between 3 other stations which also transmit on RF 13 means that their proposed coverage will be very limited and prone to both electrical and co-channel interference due the the nature of VHF. If they were really desperate to reliably reach much of the Cleveland area, then they should leave WIVX-LD where it's currently at and make an offer to buy WRAP-LD. At least put that station to good use instead of airing 4 subchannels of infomercials that most viewers probably already deleted from their TVs by now.

Also, there's another locally based station in the area, and that's WMFD 68.

WDLI has aired on Spectrum Cleveland channel 16 since 2009, when they were still a TBN station, and going through all their phases as Ion Life, Ion Plus, Court TV, and Bounce since they were sold by TBN to Ion (and subsequently stashed in the shell company that is Inyo).

That's where WDLI has its value - the cable coverage (though fair being fair, channel 17 comes in pretty good from my perch in Newburgh Hts.)

They've been on Spectrum Cleveland channel 10 forever, as well as most (if not all) of the suburban cable providers.

At this stage of the game, channel 23 isn't in it to be a "big boy", they've settled into their niche as essentially a flanker for WEWS, carrying various Scripps owned networks as channel 5's "little brother" (which come to think of it they kinda were all those years they both were ABC affiliates).

The more things change...

Yep. I predict that Bounce will remain on 17.1 for the foreseeable future because of this. The viewers in Cleveland who rely on an antenna will likely have problems receiving the network, but it doesn't seem like Scripps cares enough if a handful of their viewers can no longer tune in.

If I remember correctly, the "shareholders" or people loaning him the dough for the stations were not happy with what he wanted as they knew the ratings would probably be skinny at best and were looking for more "bang for their buck".

They can bring back the Prize Movie. Lanigan can do his skits remotely from his home. :D
I thought about that before but I don't think the prize money would build up much anymore. With Google and all these digital sub-channels showing movies that haven't seen the light of day since the dark ages,I think people would be guessing the prize movie clip right off the bat every day
